If you guys hate telemarketers as much as I do get on this list. It just went live today and won't be active until Jan 1, 2003.

Unfortunatly because of all the "exceptions" this is going to have very little impact on your telemarketing phone calls.

These types can still call you.
1. Non-profit organizations
2. Political organizations
3. Businesses that have a prior relationship with you
4. Businesses that do not intend to complete a sale over the phone, but rather complete the transaction in a face-to-face setting at a later date.

I don't know about anyone else but
Most of the telemarketing calls I get, I would say a least 80%, are from my own credit card companies (#3) all kinds of charities and political organizations (#1&2)

And if they arnt one of thoes, im sure they will just change the way they handle the calls to try and set up an apointment with you or get your address to mail you stuff to complete the transaction. (#4)

I certainly signed up first thing this morning but i don't expect shit to change very much.
That's ok because it still provides good entertainment to fuck with people sometimes.

Thank you for pointing this out to be the total scham that it is.... now the state has you signing up all your phone numbers, so THEY can
" SELL " the list to telemarketers...so that they
" will not call you ".... [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol]

I get a lot of gutters, siding, windows, newspapers. The list will probably help in those areas.

The ones that come from Qwest directly (upgraded service) and the fuckers that want to meet and refinance will continue to call. All the exemptions are bs. I heard the original bill was the opposite - you had to pay to be on the list.

I already pay the telephone company to have an
" unlisted " number....and the thing rings and rings from telemarketers...

Have a personal communication device ( read cell phone or pager ) and do not answer your home phone. It is really that simple, hell I do not even call most people at home anymore, no one is ever there, or answers the thing..

I do not answer the phone at the place I live at, unless I am expecting a call, and have started to do the same at night at the shop. There have been nights that I got ten calls from outfits trying to sell everything..I have a message system there, and peopel leave a message, and I call them back....

I do the same, plus if I don't recognize the number on my cell I don't answer it. If they want to get a hold of me they can leave a message.

Sounds like the cost of this list is being put on the telemarketers themselves. Any business that wants to telemarket in MN is required by law to purchase the no-call list from the state for $125 per quarter. They'll find ways around it but it might help some.

I like the idea of the little device you hookup to your phone that plays the three tones the phone co. sends out when you reach a disconnected number every time you pick up the phone. Automated calling systems recognize the tones as being a disconnected # and remove the number from their call list.

200,000 numbers were signed up on the first day - that's 10% of all numbers. I would assume by Jan 1 maybe another 30% will sign up. What this will mean is that the numbers that aren't signed up will receive many many more calls. So not signing up is like saying you would like every telemarketer to call you twice as often...

Scott,

I sincerly hope that you really do not think for an instant that this is going to acctually limit the number of calls you get..

The rules are so leanent that it is just one giant loop-hole....

I'll tell ya what your prize will be. All the ringers on your telephones shorting out from being overworked and your phones simuiltaniously bursting into flames, shortly thereafter propegating into the ultimate inferno that consumes your house and half the block.

Have a nice day!!!

Actually I don't answer the home phone...so they can call all they want.

But George Bush left a message on my answering machine the other day. That was pretty cool. [Razz]

It will not limit, nor will it reduce the number of calls, if anything they now will have good info, to harass the hell out of you, by properly wording the crap they spew. Your phone will not ring any less after the first of the year, then it would tonight. The only thing that will make it certian that your phone will not ring, is to UNPLUG THE LINE!!!!!

If you like this, then sign up, if you think that some stupid " rule " is acctually going to do something to help this bullshit, then I need some of that shit you are smoking....PLEASE!!!!

With the system in place - the guy that called yesterday trying to sell me a new cell phone can't call any longer therefore there is one less call. That my friend is a reduction.

[6 duplicate posts deleted – Jesus did you just learn to cut-n-paste today???]

Settle down Steve!!! It’s just a difference of opinion, I guess we will see after the first of the year. I know the loop holes are bullshit – I can read. But I strongly believe that a guy in Colorado that calls me and tries to sell me a new phone plan will not be able after Jan 1 st.

1. Non-profit organizations
NO
2. Political organizations
NO
3. Businesses that have a prior relationship with you
Nope never had a phone plan from them in the past
4. Businesses that do not intend to complete a sale over the phone, but rather complete the transaction in a face-to-face setting at a later date.
Nope they don’t plan on being in Mpls to close the deal – again they are out of state.

Did you hear that ATT is getting hit up with a big fine because of the do not call list. They couldn't make an example of a better company in my opinion. [Smile]
