Well.....
I guess ill be the first to start the disscussion.

I only hope that our retaliation is sweeping, complete, and devistating.

It seems that they only were able to hit 3 out of 4 of their targets.

The only person I know in New York is Kirsten Nelson and it looks like her office building is 3 miles from the Trades Center, I hope she is ok.

I don't know what else to say we have been watching all morning - I agree with Chad that some serious (and very emotional) retaliation is going to be laid down soon.

There is some talk that the 4th plane was shot down by fighters and that is why it never reached its target.

The buzz here at work is that we'd (the US) better come down with the big hammer and not fuck around with any "apprehend and try in a court of law" bullshit but declare this an act of war and wipe the responsible fuckers out.
Slightly off topic: the anti-gun groups always say that the citizens of the US don't need guns or concealed carry, no one would ever attack American Soil.

Wrong.

4 planes, 2 United, 2 American Airlines. All 767s or 757s. All on their way to California with lots of fuel.

EgyptAir Fight 990 in 1999 was a 767. I never did hear what the said the cause of that crash was, but the last I heard it was the pilot suiciding, even though Egyptian officials and people who knew him dismissed that.

Should we start some wild and baseless speculation about remote-controlled kamikazes? Maybe I should call Art Bell... It could just be that those are common planes for trans-continental flights.

I guess whoever succeeded this time in what they attempted in 1993...

Also heard gas is 4 bucks a gallon in Illinois, 3 bucks in Milwaukee and 5 bucks in Mississippi right now so you might want to fill her up on the way home. Some speculation about the pipeline being closed down or some shit... A buddy of mine works at miramax in NYC and works in times square which is a mile or so away from the twin towers. Luckily he didnt have to work today so he slept through most of it in his Brooklyn apartment.

My roommate just walked in and talked to a friend in the military who escorted 2 platoons of SEAL's up to guard the pipeline today (on top of all the Oil company & Airforce Air protection). Plus the Airforce here in Anchorage about shot down a KLM flight that was inbound this morning and was out of radio contact with the tower for a while. We've got F-15's from the airforce base patrolling overhead.

Hmmm, there's not suppose to be any air traffic, but I've been hearing a plane circling the cities for about 2 hours now. Seems louder or lower than a commercial plane. I heard reports of F-16s from Duluth or something....

Now they are saying that the found some evidence linking bin lauden to this attack.

A rental car was found abbandoned in the boston airport with flight manuals and fuel charts written in arabic. Also that one of the passenger manafests listied a guy linked to bin lauden. This sounds a bit fishy to me
I still think he is a good possibiltiy as the culprit but if this operation was as well planned as its effects sugest then why would they leave such obvious evedence in a place where it would easily be found like a missing rental car. Maybe bin lauden is being set up by another terrorist group or by a forign government. Either way afganistan should become a crater that spikes any gieger counter within 1000 miles.

I agree, if this attack was planned with such attention to detail why would they leave clues leading to the attackers. You'd think that if no one has come forward and claimed responsibility, that they'd also cover their tracks better than that. MAN, I hope they find out who did this, without a doubt, and UNLEASH HELL!!!!

Turn that whole fucking area over there into a big artsy piece of glass!

Let the night skies around the world glow for a month from the burning of their souls!

I can't figure out why nobody even considers that Sadam could be behind this attack. I really think that Osama would claim responsibility if in fact he had planned this. Besids Sadam knows first hand what we can do to a country when we put our minds to it.

So why wouldn't he set up Osama for the attack? That way Iraq gets some revenge (quietly) and Osama is set up for the blame. I wonder what relations are like between Iraq and Afghanastan? I don't pretend to know, but if they are somewhat enemies this would make even more sense. I do give Sadam enough credit to predict that we would immediatly suspect Osama and that we would hold a government responsible no matter what (rightfully so). I think he has the means. There has to be many sons of lost fathers to the war that would be more than willing to give their lives for payback.

Mostly I'm thinking out loud here. These are just some thoughts that have been racing around my brain (it's a short track!) Please post some of your thoughts on this theory I would love to hear some input

I agree that Iraq at the very least provided financing for this. It looks like the US is going to declare war on everyone so I am sure Iraq will be a target. We just have to decide if $5 a gallon for gas is ok with us, because if we unleash the fury on some of the suspected counties we are going to piss off a lot of the oil nations. But it does look like Russia is going to allow us to use their airspace and maybe landing strips & Nato is involved now.

From what I've read/heard lately these gas stations who are jacking up prices to $3-4 a gallon are way out of line and if anything trying to create a panic on their own. Our Oil situation has in know way been affected by this.

From some quick reading it looks like these jets were chosen due to their high fuel capacity to weight/size ratio. In otherwords more bang for your buck. The 767-200ER has enough fuel capacity to fly itself to antarctica from New York.

23,980 Gallons jet fuel fully loaded.

395,000 lbs max take-off weight

The even more scarry thing is the 767 has one of the more powerfull high bypass turbo-fan engines in any aircraft today

Aproximatly 63k lbs thrust per turbine.

The 200 is the smallest in the family buts still utilzes the same gas turbines.

you really dont need that much money to pull something like this off.

there are many groups of people who resent this great country of ours. will we ever know who was at the root of this? it depends on what you accept to be the truth.
in any case, i dont think that the " resolve " that is currently " flowing", will be doing so in two years from now, or even two months from today. i dont think that this was a large enough event, and that the " force " that everyone keeps talking about being brought to bear against a group or countries, will actually occur.
our reaction to past events lead me to this
conclusion, but god, i hope im wrong.

just like the social programs that need indefinate funding, when will enough be enough?? what is the breaking point? as of now, all these countries are standing shoulder to shoulder with us, but after the first " retaliaion " event, and many " civilians " are " murdured ", what will there stance be then? or what about the realality of the enemy killing thousands of our troops?

there are already people protesting in this country about the use of force against these
" enimies". they are the same people who cant belive that something like this could happen here. in our society today, its not hard to understand how people who call themselves americans, can think this way.

if our inocence wasnt lost before this, it surely is gone now.

PART OF THE PROBLEM!!

Not that any of us need more anger and frustration, but here it goes:

An officer that works downtown with us had a great idea and went to purchase some US flags that hang from a car window. She bought several of these and put them out for other officers to hang on their squad windows. I love my country. As a matter of fact I think that everyone that lives here should love THEIR country and be required to show respect to, and love our flag also. So I grabbed one of these flags and hung it from our squad window. Cool, RIGHT! Well, half way through our shift a message came out on our squad computers from a supervisor. This message simply said that it was against police policy and procedure to have these horrible things waving on our squad cars and that we were all to remove them at once. Due to the fact that I fear for my job, I can only tell you that this supervisor was higher up on the chain of command.

I asked another officer who has been on several years about this. He began to tell me about why we no longer wear flag patches on our uniforms either. He told me that several years ago the police administration decided to remove the patch from the uniform. Several officers rebelled against this and continued to wear the patches. After a long struggle with this, the administration decided to put its' foot down and threaten to dismiss officers if they were to continue to wear their patches. This is the best(worst) part. He further told me that when he confronted several higher ups about the reason for why the patch was to be removed he was only given one reason: That certain members of the "community" have expressed concerns over the "flag" patches and that many of them were offended by them!!!!! Can you fucking believe that? Offended by a US flag patch on an officers arm. Why does the majority conform to the minority? Why do patriotic AMERICANS have to yield to slimy fuckers that don't even want to live here? The same fuckers that all they do is complain and wonder why everyone else isn’t making things better for them. Why do people that want to work hard and make a better life for people they are sworn to protect have to yield to those who try to drag everyone else into their fucked up little world. WHY!!!!! I want to know when the majority started to feel bad and felt the need to change for the minority. I AM MAD!

Thank God Cramer began to read all this again because I think he would especially like my story.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I hope that you and enough of your peers put those patches back on your uniforms soon. The mob mentality might work in this situation – they can’t fire everyone (or anyone). Think what the media would do with this story if they found out that American flags couldn’t be worn during a time like this.

Cramer rings home with many good points. Even before reading his comments while painting my 2nd bedroom last night i got to thinking about all the people of this country and how patriotic everyone was being and how mad and sad everyone claims to be. Then i started to think into the future when we start to deal with these contries in a manor that may have some effect on if these type of travisties happen to us again. We start a military campaign from air, sea and land. We rain down hell from above and send in ground troops. We start to really do some damage and penetrate the outer layers of these strongholds. Then a few american servicemen die. A couple of afghani women and children die or get killed by their own contry so they can send the footage to the US media. Then all of a sudden the fucking asshole euphorians that were so sad and even supportive of retaliation turn around and start walking the streets jobless saying "make love not war" and spitting on our military when they return. Soon people accorss the country hate the Bush adiminstration for sustaining this "war". We then go back to wanting to be a peaceful (VULNERABLE) country.

I got so fucking angry thinking about it that i could do nothing but take 3 tylenol PM and go to bed.

People need to start thinking with some sense and logic and understand that we are humans living in a human world. Humans are always going to experience and perpetrate violence whether there is a point behind their actions or not. The only way to fight it and protect ourselves is join togeather with other countries and start hunting and to never stop hunting people who think that terrorism is the way to make a point. ALL BLIND AMERICANS NEED TO START TO UNDERSTAND THAT INOCENT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET KILLED EITHER WAY. BETTER THEM THAN AMERICANS. AT LEAST WE WILL BE SOMEWHAT SELECTIVE IN OUR TARGETS AND NOT TRY TO HURT INOCENT PEOPLE, BUT, IT WILL HAPPEN!!!!!

Another interesting point that got me thinking to hard agian last night was some of the comments that the canadian prime minister made recently since the hijackings. He pointed out how america is allways the first to send help to peoples around the world whom experience natural disaster or man made disaster. We always commit our own people and money to help people all over the world. Yet how many times have other countries come to our aid. How many times have other nations extended their money and people to help us when a huricane or earth quake hits. We help people all over the world and noone ever retruns their own money and blood for us.

Tranys solution.

First:
We start a Noah's ark attack. Rain missles bombs and bullets on them for 40 days and 40 nights without any break, Then send in the Marines and Army to rape and slaughter any survivors. The sleeping giant has once again awoke. The japaniese learned the hard leason in WWII. These fools think we are week and if they attack us we will break in half and cavein to there demands. We need to show an excessive ammount of hell fire to quash any though of future terrorisn.

Second:
The godfather method. In the first godfather the baptism scene. You know the one. They had all the opposition fam's there. We know who these terrorist groups are. So we need to round em up and kill em. Then if some camel riding ragheaded hotshot thinks its fun to bomb the US, kill em.

Third:
We rebuild the WTC, This will show these backwards fucks. That the United States is not going to take this shit. You can try to break us but we'll prevail.

Here is an exerpt from ZDNet that might prevent future hijackings:

based on the fact that all modern-day planes have global positioning systems (GPS) and are capable of landing on autopilot.

"(Install) 'safe mode' panic buttons that put the plane on forced autopilot that cannot be overridden, except in special circumstances," Steve says. He'd have them mounted in the cockpit, one for each side, with additional optional buttons in crew areas on each side of the plane in both the forward and aft cabins.

Once a plane is in safe mode, suggests Steve, it would randomly select one of the 10 nearest airports capable of accommodating that plane type, and automatically land the aircraft there.

"This technique works because you take both the pilots and the terrorists out of a control situation," he explains. "A terrorist can no longer threaten the pilot to 'Do this or I will kill people' because the terrorist knows that the pilot can't accommodate the demand no matter what."

UNDER STEVE'S PLAN, the terrorist can't get what he wants. His only option then is to kill all the people on the plane, and if his only objective is loss of life, a plane is a mighty tough target when there are easier ones (like buses) available.

Bottom line: there's no more motivation to hijack a plane. All that the hijacker could accomplish is causing the plane to land at a randomly selected airport.

Anyone hear about the weather in Afghanistan next week? I heard it was gonna be sunny and 2000 degrees :} People are so fucking stupid about all this. Obviously we are the biggest, baddest, most educated and well trained army in the world. Why would you tell us that your not going to cooperate with our efforts? Instead you will let us bomb the shit out of your families and children because we are the "devil". Regardless of what the common opinion of what we want to do is, the
government will try the hands off approach first. They will threaten war if they dont hand over everyone we want. Then we will be diplomatic about it. then if they are still being stupid we will bomb them. lets all pray this isnt how it will play out. At least a huge majority of us understand that they reap what they fucking sow.

Even the people over there want to die.

“We have suffered so much. Every night so many children go to bed hungry,” said Zalmai, a teacher who, like many Afghans, uses only one name. “What do we have to live for? Let the rockets come and set this whole country on fire once and for all.”

mike w.

if i said i was suprised, would you belive me? i was going to ask sgt. sullivan about that topic when we were downtown but it slipped my mind. i noticed that when you first donned the blue, but thought they may had been out of those patches...

the anger you have on this topic, i share with you. you are a city employee, inside the borders of the USA, this should be a standard piece on your shirt/jacket/ etc.

this anger/frustration is not new to me, nor do i think you either..

people wonder why i get so wound up about the things i do... its called passion.
the flag, to me, is the last thing in america that has yet to be fucked with.

it is everything that being an american stands for, to me. the people inacting policy changes, chipping away at the freedoms that real americans hold dear, have nothing to do with that single great symbol of freedom. anyone who finds it offensive....
is far beyond help, and will forever be a bottom-feeder.

there is so much else to say,
hopefully we can get together and have a beer...SOON!!!!

I thought this was good.

"By Leonard Pitts Jr. of the Miami Herald
>>
>>We'll go forward from this moment
>>
>>It's my job to have something to say. They pay me to provide words that help
>>make sense of that which troubles the American soul. But in this moment of
>>airless shock when hot tears sting disbelieving eyes, the only thing I can
>>find to say, the only words that seem to fit, must be addressed to the
>>unknown author of this suffering.
>>
>>You monster. You beast. You unspeakable #######. What lesson did you hope to
>>teach us by your coward's attack on our World Trade Center, our Pentagon, us?
>>What was it you hoped we would learn? Whatever it was, please know that you
>>failed.
>>
>>Did you want us to respect your cause? You just damned your cause. Did you
>>want to make us fear? You just steeled our resolve.
>>
>>Did you want to tear us apart? You just brought us together.
>>
>>Let me tell you about my people. We are a vast and quarrelsome family, a
>>family rent by racial, social, political and class division, but a family
>>nonetheless. We're frivolous, yes, capable of expending tremendous emotional
>>energy on pop cultural minutiae-a singer's revealing dress, a ball team's
>>misfortune, a cartoon mouse. We're wealthy, too, spoiled by the ready
>>availability of trinkets and material goods, and maybe because of that, we
>>walk through life with a certain sense of blithe entitlement. We are
>>fundamentally decent,
>>though-peace-loving and compassionate. We struggle to know the right thing
>>and to do it. And we are, the overwhelming majority of us, people of faith,
>>believers in a just and loving God.
>>
>>Some people-you, perhaps- think that any or all of this makes us weak. You're
>>mistaken. We are not weak. Indeed, we are strong in ways that cannot be
>>measured by arsenals.
>>
>>IN PAIN
>>Yes, we're in pain now. We are in mourning and we are in shock. We're still
>>grappling with the unreality of the awful thing you did, still working to
>>make ourselves understand that this isn't a special effect from some
>>Hollywood blockbuster, isn't the plot development from a Tom Clancy novel.
>>Both in terms of the awful scope of their ambition and the probable final
>>death toll, your attacks are likely to go down as the worst acts of terrorism
>>in the history of the United States and, probably, the history of the world.
>>You've bloodied us as we have never been bloodied before.
>>
>>But there's a gulf of difference between making us bloody and making us fall.
>>This is the lesson Japan was taught to its bitter sorrow the last time anyone
>>hit us this hard, the last time anyone brought us such abrupt and monumental
>>pain. When roused, we are righteous in our outrage, terrible in our force.
>>When provoked by this level of barbarism, we will bear any suffering, pay any
>>cost, go to any length, in the pursuit of justice.
>>
>>I tell you this without fear of contradiction. I know my people, as you, I
>>think, do not. What I know reassures me. It also causes me to tremble with
>>dread of the future.
>>
>>In the days to come, there will be recrimination and accusation, fingers
>>pointing to determine whose failure allowed this to happen and what can be
>>done to prevent it from happening again. There will be heightened security,
>>misguided talk of revoking basic freedoms. We'll go forward from this moment
>>sobered, chastened, sad. But determined, too. Unimaginably determined.
>>
>>THE STEEL IN US
>>You see, the steel in us is not always readily apparent. That aspect of our
>>character is seldom understood by people who don't know us well. On this day,
>>the family's bickering is put on hold. As Americans we will weep, as
>>Americans we will mourn, and as Americans, we will rise in defense of all
>>that we cherish.
>>
>>So I ask again: What was it you hoped to teach us? It occurs to me that maybe
>>you just wanted us to know the depths of your hatred. If that's the case,
>>consider the message received.
>>
>>And take this message in exchange: You don't know my people. You don't know
>>what we're capable of. You don't know what you just started. But you're about
>>to learn."

I hope we are as UNITED as this purports us to be. Someone will and must pay for this..........
