Linksys Ships Wireless-B Media Link For Streamlined Delivery Of Music From PC To Stereo

Stream MP3s, Play Lists and Internet Radio to Any Stereo with the Wireless-B Media Link for Music

IRVINE, CA – May 19, 2004 – Linksys®, a division of Cisco Systems Inc., the leading provider of broadband, wireless and networking hardware for the consumer and Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) markets, today announced its shipment of the Linksys Wireless-B Media Link for Music (WML11B) and Wireless-B Music System (WMLS11B). The Linksys Wireless-B Media Link for music allows users to listen to digital music on their home stereo systems while the Linksys Wireless-B Music System includes high quality powered speakers so users can enjoy listening to music by the pool, in a bedroom, the garage or even in the kitchen.

The Linksys Wireless-B Media Link bridges the analog and digital worlds using Wireless-B (802.11b) networking to send digital audio content such as MP3s, WMAs and play lists stored on a PC or other storage devices to a home stereo. Aside from music files, the Media Link offers access to hundreds of global Internet Radio stations and support for music streaming services. Media Link comes standard with an Internet Radio Service, which offers more than 1,000 basic Internet Stations that can be displayed on the LCD screen. In addition, the Linksys Wireless-B Media Link is now compatible with RealNetworks’ award-winning Rhapsody Internet jukebox service.

Linksys has teamed with RealNetworks to offer a free three-month trial of its Rhapsody Radio Plus service (normally $4.95 per month) with the purchase of either the Linksys Media Link for Music or Wireless-B Music System. Rhapsody Radio Plus enables music fans to create their own customized Internet radio stations with music from their favorite artists, offers more than 50 professionally programmed stations, and allows users to skip song that are not of interest and just listen to their favorite tracks. Linksys customers can also upgrade to a Rhapsody “All Access” subscription for just $9.95 per month. An “All Access” subscription gives customers unlimited streaming access to a vast library of more than 650,000 songs and the ability to purchase songs for 79 cents each, in addition to all of the features of the Radio Plus service.

“The Media Link for Music is one of our latest additions to our Wireless Home product Line,” said Steve Troyer, director of product marketing, Linksys. “The Media Link is an all-in-one solution for music enthusiasts allow them to listen to music stored on their PC’s or streamed over the Internet in the way they want to: in full stereo sound using their home stereo, powered speakers or the speakers that are standard with the Wireless Music System. With this easy-to-use system users are never far from their favorite music.”

The Media Link for Music sits by a home stereo system and connects by standard RCA cables or optical SPDIF cable for digital operation. Equipped with an embedded LCD screen, users can select songs, play lists, and music services on the built-in display. Users operate the device with an easy to use infrared remote control or by scrolling through music lists and songs with the buttons on the device itself. The Media Link connects to a home network with the built in 802.11b wireless function or via standard a 10/100 Ethernet cable if a home is wired with Ethernet.

The Linksys Wireless-B Music System comes with powered speakers for easy accessibility to all sorts of enjoyable music. The Music System weighs less than three and a half pounds with its attached speakers and is easy-to-use. It can be used as a portable boom box and can accompany users throughout the home.

The Wireless-B Media Link (WML11B) is immediately available through retail, E-commerce, catalog, direct response and distribution channels at an estimated street price of $149.99. The Media Link for Music is also available with speakers, which is named the Wireless-B Music System (WMLS11B) at an estimated street price of $179.99.
