Here is the small file you will need to install steam and start downloading CS 1.6. I guess the servers are swamped so it will take all day if you try today.

So I'm kinda confused about all this??? Theres a post on the VvV board discussing this as well. Using this steam shit is mandatory??? So if I don't do it one day I'll fire up CS and go to my saved list and I won't be able to join??? Another question, according to the VvV board the steam shit is a GO, but 1.6 is still in beta???? Why they got-to fuck with this shit so much, its fine, just get HL2 out.

When the steam shit first came out I remember trying it and getting absolutely horrible pings.

Well I haven't kept up on this lately but I know Steam will be required. Rumor has it that the WON servers will go away and Steam will take the place of cd key authentication.

1.6 Beta ended this week and 1.6 release is out. You install Steam and hit update CS - it will download the newest version of 1.6.

I just connected to my computer at home (yeah for Remote Desktop) and am about half way through the steam install. Here is what it does.

You create a user name and password (I got Klaus [Smile] )

It searches your system for cs/halflife installs and tells you what games you are eligable to install. You pick which ones you want converted. It offers you the chance to keep your old files - I would do this or you can't play 1.5 anymore. It searches for custom maps and converts those. My total space needed was 3.1g - I chose half-life, TFC, and CS to be converted.

I assume what will happen next is it will attempt to update CS to the current 1.6 version.

Well if the rumor about the WON servers is true that might be correct.

There are still 1.4 servers out there and I assume 1.5 servers will stay around for as long as then can.

Come on Joe don't fear change!

I played for a few hours on a server out of Chicago - I found no problems. I would recommend downloading the 388mb file instead of the small installer and letting steam update itself. It will take all week if you want Steam to update itself.

I like alot of the new features in 1.6. Not sure on the sheild yet but I like the new smoke gernade.

You can now browse games while playing or have it auto connect to a server of your choice when a slot is open. You can also alt/tab to your desktop and back without losing sound!

Here Joe you might appreciate this pic:

Well I guess the day is almost here....

quote:
Counter-Strike 1.5 is still available, and will be for a couple of weeks. After we're confident that the Steam authentication servers are functioning as they should (and not before), we'll be turning off the WON servers and migrating everyone over to the new system.

Hauser do you have any idea when Kanker will be going to 1.6? Will they wait until the last possible day or go early to avoid downtime when the WON servers go offline?

I did find a couple servers last night that I got 15-22 ping on [Eek!]

If anyone needs the 366mb file I can put it on a CD for you.

We should soon have a combo CS1.5 going away and battlefield 1942 LAN party. Been a while since we've had one.

Do it at a time when everyone can make it.

I would be up for it. But lets find a weekend when Mikey can come.

Just make sure when you install 1.6 that you ask Steam to keep your old files or it will erase 1.5 from your computer. I told steam to leave my old files and I have played both 1.6 and 1.5 without issue.

Anyways, you guys will like 1.6 I bet. The smoke gernade is a VERY useful tool now. Throw one in front of the doors you run past on your way to site b in dust (as ct) and it covers everyone running through the double doors.

The shield is ok as long as not everyone is using one on CT. I usually get auted to T so I haven't used it but killing someone with one usually means working with someone else on your team to get behind the CT. HE gernades work very well against CT's with shields. Remember the CT can't shoot with the shield deployed.

The in game friends browser is new. Add me to your list when you install the game. I am:

Actrally yes we're in the transition of changing it over. We submitted a support ticket to the server people earlier today and should be up by tomorrow evening at the latest if we're lucky.

I have a question I installed 1.6 and did the update shit I don't know if I did it correctly I didn't use that 388mb file cuz I didn't completely understand how that way or could get any of the server's to dl anything to me. Do I need todo this and will see better performance out of 1.6? or with the way I already have installed it fine and I'll have the same results?

Same results. The big file just makes it so you don't need to have Steam D/L the game to you.

Here is the nextwish scripts a lot of us used in 1.5. If you haven't used these scripts, I highly recommend you try them. All the program does is add more configs to the keyboard config menu. Like one button voice commands and one button buys (ak-7, full ammo, he gernade, vest). It also adds a ingame graphic menu that you can select things like netgraph. Here is the download...... I think I had this problem last fall.

Try removing the file ClientRegistry.blob in your steam folder.

Then start steam and it will re-update.

I still need those 4 maps when you have some time.

What exactly does it say. Invalid Ticket ID? or problems verifying Ticket ID?

Steam is a huge pile of shit. Every other time I try and logon I get kicked for no reason at all. It says you have been kicked and then has a square. A couple minutes later I log in with no problems.

Gisel, I was looking at the picture page and I do have to admit, you look pretty good for a gaming female. Having said that, don't expect any sympathy when we meet on the battlefield. I am a fighter first, lover second.
