There is a function within Steam that allows you to backup all your files. It is not public yet but I have tried it and it works great. You select CD or DVD and it makes files to burn. They are .exe files and install when you click on them. The command is:
steam://backup
You type that into your internet browser and the wizard starts... So much for wanting the media when you can just make a backup.
