Anyone know the release date or what the reviews are like? I would like a game for my big TV.

Not sure it keeps getting pushed back. Sometime in the fall the last time I heard.

Everything I read about it is negative. The price, the features, lack of good games, etc. Buy the Xbox 360 now and be set.
Of course I'm a PC snob and really don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to consoles, so take it for what it is worth.

I should bring over my PS2 and burnout 3 and we could run it HD on your tube. With a couple of wheels and a couple cases of beer that would be a blast!

Got my PS3 2 weeks ago now. My review so far:

Pros:
Blu-Ray 1080p movies. Main reason I bought it. With two HDTVs in my house I felt buying DVDs was a waste because of the new formats coming out.

Ability to download HD movie trailers and game demos for free.

Ability to view media (video/pictures) stored on a memory card. Mp3s/WMA too.

Games that are out. Motorstorm is awesome and the only game I own.

Bluetooth controllers, headsets, keyboards and mice standard.

Folding@home.

Cons:
Price. When the system price drops it will a much easier choice to purchase. 500-600 is too much.

Needs more games. Ones that came out for the Xbox and are ported to PS3 don't look that great. Ones designed on the PS3 blow away any games to date.

Playstation store (online place to download content) could be better. Add some TV show/movie downloads and it would be awesome.

Sucker is heavy.

Last update a couple weeks ago Sony added some new features to the PS3.

DVD upscaling to 1080p/720p are now included (no need for another DVD player).

Media server functions. If you have Media Player 11 or Nero Media Home running on your network computer the PS3 will be able to play music/videos/pictures over the network on your TV. I am still working out some bugs with my system but it works great most of the time.

Ability to play more video formats. Still can't play DIVX or XVID but if you run Nero Media Home on your desktop it will transcode the video before it streams to your TV.

And of course the big news - Blockbuster will now carry Blu-Ray Disks in all their brink and mortar stores in addition to online.

It's Official: Sony Confirms PS3 Price Drop; Announces New 80Gb Model
Mon Jul 09, 2007 at 02:21 AM ET

After several rounds of rumors and denials, Sony has officially announced via press release that the 60Gb model of its Blu-ray enabled PlayStation 3 will be reduced to $499 as of July 15.

In addition to the $100 price cut, the company also says it will introduce a new 80Gb edition of the console retailing for $599, which will come bundled with the flagship PS3 racing title 'MotorStorm.'

"As we move into the next phase of PS3, it's important that we continue to evaluate our product line, offering consumers the technology and features that meet their growing needs for new forms of media and the way in which it is delivered," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCEA.

"The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PlayStation Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold," he added.

Today's announcement comes at a crucial time for the PS3. While more than 3.6 million units have been sold worldwide since launch, PS3 sales have lagged behind Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360, which are both more competitively priced. Sony is clearly counting on this price cut to help level the playing field for the PS3 among its game console brethren.

But the move could have even greater ramifications for the high-def format war. Already responsible for catapulting Blu-ray software sales to a reported two-to-one lead over HD DVD since the beginning of 2007, the lower price tag for the PS3 can only help the Blu-ray format as it introduces yet more uninitiated consumers to the wonders of high-def disc.

Although it's still a good two hundred dollars more than the least expensive stand-alone HD DVD players, with its new competitive pricing, the 60Gb PS3 now shares honors with Sony's second-generation BDP-S300 Blu-ray player as the least expensive Blu-ray player on the market.

It's funny, I threw a curveball at the wife: "Honey, I think we need a blue-ray player."

She goes, "okay, how much is one of those?"

Me: "About $600."

She agreed and I said, "I set your ass up!" [Wink]

I'll be buying my 60gb model right around the 15th when they hit $500. whee!

Warhawk is out and it's a great game. $39 download from PSN or $59 Blu-Ray with a bluetooth headset.

It's pretty much Battlefield 2 with a better flying and less ground vehicles (only tanks/jeeps). Air combat is a blast although my cable is out so I have only played for about 30 mins and I suck.

New deal at Amazon $470 for PS3 60gig and 8 Blu Ray movies.
