So i need an oil filter relocation kit.

Cramer any pros or cons to usnig a relocation kit? I realize there will be more oil in the system but any problems with starving the pump at startup by having the oil filter in a different location?

Also is the FRAM PH8A the same as the Purolator Per-1A? My nissan uses the standard toyota/ford PH8A filter so i imagine it woulnt be that hard to find a good oil filter relocationt kit.

Everyone and their brother makes some sort of " kit ".... I do not know how you will make it work on your two jap trucks tho....

There was a 'Cruiser at the shop a few years ago that had a " dual filter/ filter with a " cooler wrap " thing on it "... I would look at Summit Racing, or call M A S racing in St Paul, right by Rihm Kenworth. If you find a " big name " performance manufacture " kit " number, you can call Red Rooster in Bloomington, and have them call Arrow Speed Whse, Then you might be able to get it same day.

What is your main reason for wanting to go this way??? interference with the headders???

I thought that the oil going into the pump was drwan out of the pan, so I do not know how you would get a starvation situation to happen, but I could be wrong, I have not studied flow charts on lubrication systems for datsuns. [Razz]

Further,

It is my personal opinion that an engine can run for a period of time, WITHOUT incuring significant damage, without pressurized lubrication. There is residual oil on the moving parts, and if the engine is not taken above idle, or have a load put to it right away while it is cold, you " should " be fine, for a few seconds without oil pressure. It happens EVERYDAY with MILLIONS of engines, both gas and diesel, all over the world. " Pre-lube " systems, a electric oil pump that builds pressure before letting the engine turn over, are in use on CAT's larger equipment 988F & G wheel loaders, 5130 and larger front shovles, and the mining trucks 769 and larger. Typically this system is used on engines 3408 and larger, but not exclusivly.

confused yet??

Yes,

My nissan has an exhaust manifold leak. The manifolds on the older pathfinders when they get hot tend to warp and break the exhaust manifold studs. It has had this problem before and it will again unless I remove the manifolds and install headers with 300ZX turbo manifold studs (much stronger studs). The headers dont warp as much as the stock manifolds especally when coated inside and out with jet-hot. Plus the improved strength of the "turbo" studs keeps the studs from breaking. In doing this the new headers make the oil filter extremely difficult to get at for oil changes. So by relocating the filter it is easier to change the oil.

The nissan v6's use the same thread pattern as the toyota's and fords. So i could start using a PH8A style filter. Just looking into experince you might have had or heard with remote oil filters creating problems, such as starving the pump or putting extra load on the pump. More oil capacity can't be a bad thing for keeping it cool and clean but who knows what other problems i could be creating.
