Okay, Klauss, it's starting to pick up, and I'm enjoying it. Today's work day just FLEW by. Committment: Done by the movie's release date. (All 3 books)

What's the exact release date, and who wants to meet at Inver Grove theatre to see it with me at the noon showing? Any takers? We could turn it into a half day of work and then an early night at the bars...Is it the 20th? That's a Thursday...

Though i have read all three before i just reciently finished the first one and am now reading the seccond again. Though the first one has some slow spots it is still a great book. A little bit more in depth than the hobbit though. (In case you didn't know that. ) "Fellowship" opens on the 21st, if i don't end up going at midnight late thurs (fri morn) i would be up for a noon showing.

The lord of the rings will be great movies. But, I hope and dream that someone would take on the task of making good live action moves of the Dragonlance Chronicles.

Has anyone seen my Trilogy book?? I brought it to the cabin and now I can't seem to find it.

I am half way through the Two Towers and would like to finish it.

Judging by the recent release and bomb of Dungeons & Dragons, I wouldn't look for any more D&D themed/based movies Chad. Which I personally find sad; with today computer-generated F/X, they could be making some great hack-n-slash D&D stuff. Look how huge fuckin Harry Potter went over...
(I'm sure I'll be reading that series to Jack when he gets older - AFTER I read Tolkein to him...)

The best thing that ever happened to Harry Potter was when he got shit out of Ms. Craptree's cunt on Southpark.

Fuck that guy and his little owl too.

You guys are morons....Fellowship opens on the 19th, and thats a wednesday. Believe me, i just saw a trailer for it on TV like a half an hour ago.

I just got the new edition of the trilogy. I dont know why, but i have never got around to reading LOR. I probibly wont finish Fellowship by the 19th cause i have finals coming up, but im gonna try.

Posted by Ender (Member # 55) on :

Too bad the movie is rated PG-13, which means there is likely to be no decapitations or excess violence. I guess they want to appeal to a younger audience as well. FUCK THAT! I WANT BLOOD IN THESE TYPES OF MOVIES!! Even so, im sure it will be a blast to see. Im in for seeing it opening night it anyone else is up for that.

Have we determined a time/place?

Posted by BoondockSaint (Member # 67) on :

WHEN? WHERE? WHO?

5 or 7 on Wednesday? Should we be buying tickets in advance or is Vicki really going to buy some for us? Klaus, what's the deal, yo?

I checked showtimes and it dosen't look good for anything around 5:00pm. Eagan and Invergrove don't even seem to have it. Rosemount has 2 showtimes 4 & 8. We might need to wait until tomorrow to see if Eagan or Invergrove really has it. I think having Vicki and Christy run around and get tickets is a great idea. Or we could go tomorrow night at midnight.... j/k

Cramer, Pfaff, Martin, other readers - are you guys going to joins us???

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

OK, Moviefone.com is a piece of shit. Here are the showtimes for Invergrove on Wed.... I think 5:00 works for me. What does everyone else think?

Lets go to the rosemount theatre, (and not because I live two blocks away) I've never seen that theatre very buisy at all, even opening weekend of harry potter, and it is very clean with good seats/screens/sound.

Tickets are a little cheaper there too.

I could go buy some tickest tonight after work if i know how many.

Posted by RockLobster (Member # 45) on :

The 8pm showing at rosemount would be fine because everyone would still get home by midnight for sure....

Posted by BoondockSaint (Member # 67) on :

Midnight show?

I don't want to go to the Mall Of America, the theatre is filthy, and it will be PACKED. Rosemount is a nice theatre, but I like Inver Grove's sound. Do they have a midnight showing? If not, I say 5:00 on Wednesday at either Inver Grove or Rosemount.

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

Isn't Rosemount a non-stadium style seating theatre??? I think we all wanted to go as early as possible - 5pm was the goal.

Posted by RockLobster (Member # 45) on :

rosemount theatre is stadium style

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

Yeah, I hate the Mall of America - always some ahole with his cell phone on and always packed with homies.

Posted by RockLobster (Member # 45) on :

why does it need to be early?

Posted by RockLobster (Member # 45) on :

Yes MOA theatre is the worst..

Posted by BoondockSaint (Member # 67) on :

Well, because I'm impatient.

I'm up for a midnight show, and if it's good I'll go with the gang on Wednesday, too.

We need to decide soon, Klaus, because I don't know if you noticed it but Vicki is a girl, and girls are stupid. I don't know if you know that or not. She'll forget, or get sidetracked by one of her 15 year old fuck buddies.

Nah, I'm just excited to see it.

Rosemount's first showing is at 4:00...I could make that...

What's the word, gentleman?

I'm interested if you guys decide when and where. I have to work some OT Tuesday from 6:00PM to whenever, but Wednesday is clear.

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

I guess I would do the midnight - but it is "only at select theaters" (below is moviefones list) - if you are serious call Rosemount or Invergrove and see if they are having a midnight show.

Otherwise - I still say Invergrove at 5pm or 6pm Wednesday (good sound, best seats, showing in 3+ theaters, close to everyone)

Figures.

I learn "Wednesday at 5" right after confirming Dad's Birthday dinner/Family pre-X-mas X-mas dinner at 6:00 on Wednesday.

I guess that's what I get for not checking Noncompliance before talking to Mom...

There's the outside chance of showing up at the Outback for a few, but can't stay long. Driving to Chicago on Thursday morning. From there to Mississippi for the Extended Family X-mas, back to Chicago for G/F's Mom's Birthday, then home. So, roughly 2,400-2,600 miles later I'll be back either before the 1st (y'all having a party?) or after, depending. Y'all having a party?

I'll try and get to the Outback at least. Could use a beer or two, and haven't been down there in ages.

sure, what the fuck? get me a ticket. i will be over there. i will also follow this posting up with a phone call, confirming what i am posting here, because of the possibility of " lag " with this system...

I like it when the PC I have here at work "hiccups" because it sits for about 10 minutes thinking about posting on noncompliance and so I, predictably, hit send AGAIN. If you see more than one post from me about the exact same thing, blame the Pentium II I work on here. Oh, and the T1 line, we know how slow that is.

Wow, Cramer, Pfaff, Me, Scott, Chad...who else? This could get interesting...

Now i'm realy excited about this! If critics find a fantasy movie good then it must be REALY GOOD! Especially saying that harry potter can't nearly stand up to it!

Can't be mad, really, though, 'cause they sent us home with a fair amount of loot...

Maybe I'll catch y'all at New Years?

Catch y'all later and Happy Holidays!

Man they really could of dropped the ball on this one, but thankfully they didn't. Has to be one of the BEST book adaptations ever. I was highly impressed and thought they did a excellent job. They prob could of cut down on some of the enourmous amount of hugging and heartfelt moments though j/k.... Definitly a classic already.

Posted by BoondockSaint (Member # 67) on :

My take? I have to agree with Chad, it was perfect. I've been going over in my head any way it could've been better, and I'm at a loss. They strayed from the book in many places, borrowed a little from The Two Towers, but it ended up being exactly the way it should've been. You remember how excited you were when you heard that Episode 1 was coming out and how let down you felt afterwards? I was afraid of that going into this movie that I'd walk out feeling the same way. Just the opposite. I walked out feeling satisfied. About time a fucking movie blew me away again...what was the last one for you guys? I think my last one was Saving Private Ryan, where you walked out just going, "Fuckin a that was good..." 4 out of 4 's.

I loved it. I rarely enjoy movies that are from books I have read, but in this case it translated well. (can’t wait for Blackhawk down) I was happy to hear from Steve D. that he also enjoyed it, being the only one of us last night that had not read the book. I was concerned that since many things were omitted a non-reader might not be able to follow the history that Tokinen lays out in such detail in the book. I hope he takes my extra copy of LOTR and reads “fellowship” – then I would really be interested in hearing what he thought of the movie.

I will definitely see it again soon.

Posted by Ender (Member # 55) on :

Ya. Im in the same boat that steve is. I had planned on reading LOTR before the movie came out, but that didnt happen since i was so busy with having to move and with school. Going to see it on Sunday with the fam. so ill get back to you on what i thought. Im 99.999999% sure that ill love it since these kind of movies are my favorite.

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

I saw it for a second time last night and I have to say it was even better. I didn't think about the book and how it differed at all this time - so it was much more enjoyable.

I was surprised how many people were there too. It was sold out on a Wednesday night.....

[This message has been edited by Klaus (edited 12-27-2001).]

Posted by RockLobster (Member # 45) on :

Yes the second time was even better! I was wowed twice by one movie in the same week. Great movie....

I gotta get to see oceans eleven though before it goes out of the theatre.

Ayup, good movie!

Took my gf and her mom out to see it last night for her mom's birthday gift. All present loved it! Not sure if it was the theater we were in, but a lot of the shots were rather fuzzed out of focus, like the top was in, the bottom was out, or the center was in and the edges were out, or the center was out and the edges were in... Wierd. Could be a warped screen or drunk projecter person, but also could be artifacts of digital editing, not sure. Seemed a lot of the "traveling" scenes were fuzzy...

All in all, a good movie. It's been too long since I read the books to guage it from that, but it was better than Ralph Bakshi's animated version, though it cut off sooner. I was reminded by my gf that the Bakshi version used two books instead of just one, though.

Still in Illinois. Back later. Any New Year's plans yet?

The DVD comes out on August 7th. Of course I will buy it..... Then in November the extended version comes out with added footage. Of course I will buy it. Damn marketing fuckers [brd]

I've had it on Divx since March!

I can now watch it on my TV, with the sound coursing through my reciever, and yes, I'll probably buy the DVD too... [Wink]

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

Oh come on Eric - Divx sucks for watching on your TV. I also DL it way back when it came out - ok for watching on a computer monitor but not on the big screen.

Comes out today on DVD.

Chad did you go get the DVD at midnight? (GAY) And what were you doing on Kanker this morning at 9am? Don't you work? [Confused]

No i went to bed.

I have the day off today. I'm relaxing and no longer playing cs because it frustrates me to much now. I can't play at all like i used to so i quit.

Got it yesterday at Target for $16.99 instead of $22.99 - seemed like a good deal. It looked like there were two different versions - full screen and wide screen.

Posted by Klaus (Member # 66) on :

We watched it last night - was as good as the first time. There is a preview of the Two Towers on the disc. It's not the trailer, but a whole new behind the screens/preview of The Two Towers. There is also a preview of the extended version coming in November - looks like some cool scenes are added back.

While at Best Buy getting Attack of the Clones I also got the extended version of LOTR : Fellowship of the Rings.

There are 30 minutes added to the moive.
The movie is now split onto 2 DVD's, this allows less "compression" and a better quality movie.

There are also 2 bonus discs with lot of extra stuff.

Just finished the extended version at 3:30 long....

IMHO - throw out your theatre version! I thought the original theatre version was incredable but with the added footage and extended scenes the new version is 100% better. [Eek!] [Eek!] Seriously, if you haven't read the book in awhile the new version fills in a lot of the gaps that were breezed over in the theatre release. Examples -

New scene/beginning that explains Hobbits and their view of the world.

Boromir tries to grab the ring at the council - Gandalf forces him to stop.

The Elves refuse to let the fellowship into see Galadrial at first.

A new scene with Galadriel giving her gifts to the fellowship. Which of course are used in the rest of the story.

Extended battle scenes at the end.

Alot more story development with most scenes being extended. Like the journey to rivendale takes longer then 30 seconds. The mithreal armor is explained more in an extended scene in the mines of moria. Frodo finds out it's worth more then all of the shire..lol

I highly recommend seeing this version before the Two Towers comes out in December. Anyone is welcome to my copy...

Posted by Jomama (Member # 56) on :

I watched the extended version last night...... Hard to believe it got better, but it is. Klaus is right, it follows the book even better this time.
