Broadcasting coast-to-coast from its headquarters less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, XM provides the highly-anticipated Air America Radio with its first national platform. XM's fast-growing nation of more than 3 million listeners now can tune in daily to Air America's talented and opinionated on-air personalities including popular satirist Al Franken, comedienne Jeanene Garofalo, hip hop icon Chuck D. and environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. New channel XM America Left complements XM's other talk programming which features more conservative on-air talent, including Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage and Ann Coulter.

Wow...so every day depending on which station I land on I could hear the zealots from both sides? Fabulous...

Here's a crazy idea...why not have both stations go head to head in a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome style deathmatch? Two men enter, one man leave! I would pay good money to see Savage and Garofalo...

Question: why do they say: "...dedicated to progressive political viewpoints..."

Isn't their idea of progress really a giant step backwards? Or sideways? Or into a pile of dog shit? Someone explain "progressive political viewpoints" to me...

Nothing Al Frankin does is "progressive". It's simply political hate speech. He said the other day that he is only planning on doing the radio thing until the election and the defeat of Bush - then he wants to go back to whatever it is he does. And his co-host is from Minnesota Public Radio..... [Roll Eyes] Glad I have been paying her salary all these years and she is an extreme leftist......

Al Franken: This guy is one blow job past the ass pirate mark, He sucks more dick the all of the village people. He also heeds a fucking hair cut.

Jeanene Garofalo: Wannabe lesbian, I am guessing that she has the full natural forest of a bush and doesnt shave her pits or legs, She will most likely reak of petchuli to cover up the bong stink. He refridgerator will have no animal products, only soy and tofu. She did however date Ben Stiller at one point, but I think she was comming to terms with her lesbian predisposition.

Chuck D.: So a Rapper is a liberal voice? Why not a conservative Rapper? Oh yea, hes a fucking brother with a chip on his shoulder. He needs to stick it to the man, and represent his blackness.

In all actuallity I think it is the Jew's proliferating this anti-american filth. After all the Jews controll the banks and the media, Liberal=Jew.

AM 1330 now carries this show locally, and unfortunately I caught part of it by accident. My favorite was when they had Al Gore on the phone and they STILL think he won the election.
You would think from the way they were talking that we are headed for another Great Depression.

Preface: I hate Rush Limbaugh

They also made reference to a certain drug addiction. Why not speak about the issues instead.
Now my favorite non-sports station is gone and I get this. I guess I'm going to have to listen to the annoying Common Man again...

Brent, Listen to the Patriot - Laura Igraham and Mike Gallagah are pretty good.

My review of the O'Frankin Factor (cute name) is that it sounded to me like college radio. I heard the interview with Kerry (not the canidate but the head of the 9/11 committee a democrat) and it didn't seem to go Frankins way. He was frusterated when Kerry refused to blame 9/11 on Bush and Rice. After that interview the show wasn't too bad - although it didn't flow very well and at times the NPR chick completely took over. The callers seemed to be all converatives. I know it's the first day - we will see if it gets better. I won't be listening except maybe during commercial breaks from Gallagars show.

Oh yeah when Michael Moore came on I quickly had to switch to another channel - I have no time for that fucker. [brd]

You can't blame 9/11 on anyone, but the ragheads. bottom line! I have come to know that 99% of the colleges and universities are run an staffed by these libral homos, and why? Because the conservative or more moderate people can thrive and prosper in society without a tenure. Have you seen any GLAD orginizations at a fortune 500 company?

I believe it's 1280

Here is the program guide. The only program I have listened to is Laura Ingrham from 8-11. Mike Gallagar looks to be replayed at 11pm (I listen on XM during the live show from 11-2) Mikey likes Savage although I have never heard him (guess he is super hard core).

If you want to see the "ultra-right" as they say, read Michael Savage's book "The Savage Nation". It's a good read...

And I just discovered that I get to listen to him in the mornings (when KQ goes to music or commercial).

It's fun to hear the side that we've all got buried deep down but never tap in to (except Trany of course:) ), but it does get old after a while. Yes, I think the liberals are domestic terrorists and I find it amusing when they try to make their absurd points, but just because we're on the same political side doesn't make blind hatred correct. At least have a reason to hate. Example: I hate the Iraqi fundamentalists because of who they kill, how they kill and what they do to the bodies of those that they kill. See? I didn't say "All Iraqi's are motherfuckers who deserve to die"...

Sorry, tangent alert!

Anyway, I really enjoy listening to the Patriot, but the on-phone vs. on-air arguing gets really old really fast, because the phone person never really makes any intelligent and/or relevant points they just bitch and complain and eventually get cut off by the on-air talent.

But like I said, it's a welcome relief from all the other media stations that seem to sway to the left...

This is what Frankin talked about -

I hate Rush Limbaugh
Al Gore won the election
and I almost forgot I hate Rush Limbaugh (and he does drugs)

Savage is pretty good. I used to listen to him on the drive home from work when I still lived in CA - I also have his book if anyone is interersted in reading it. I agree with most of his stuff, but he too (like Rush) can get a little over the top sometimes.

Glenn Beck is also pretty good to listen to. He usually adds some good humor to the political point of view.

I have listened to Glen Beck for two days now. He is pretty good. Tends to go off on long sarcastic rants which are pretty good. Time will tell if it gets old.

Michael Medved is also new to the XM line up. He is a well researched host. Doesn't yell or talk over his callers. I switch between him and Hannity in the afternoon - two completely different styles.

lol, wow

I've listened to franken factor a bit now, and my first thought after listening is this will never last. Unless it gets incredibly better, I don't see how it will have staying power. To contrived. Al's impressions arn't good enough to be entertaining. The only thing that can be a bit interesting is callers.

Some local DJ's just quit, and now they've added the Bob & Tom Show tape-delayed up here -

So im listening to normal radio for the first 2 hours of my day for now.

I have listened a bit during commercial on Laura Ingraham and it's still the same as it was the first week. You would think they would have adjusted their approach to radio.....but I guess not.

Liberal radio is airing bad jokes and worst taste

The United States "is on the slippery slope to theocratic fascism." "The Catholic Church has been secretly encouraging oral sex for years."
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld "ought to be tortured." President Bush should be taken out and shot.

Those are a few nutso nuggets from the hosts of Air America Radio, which calls itself the new liberal voice. The fledgling network is carried in New York on WLIB, 1190 AM. With the Iraq torture scandal everywhere, I tuned in, expecting to hear sober policy analysis mixed with glee over President Bush's political pickle.

Instead, I got 10 hours of rancid venom directed at the President, Rumsfeld, Rush Limbaugh, the Catholic Church and anyone else the hosts felt like slamming. If you're a card-carrying lib who likes crude sex jokes and a cartoonish echo chamber, Air America is for you.

Take one host's linking the talk of "pulling out" the troops with the claim that "that's what the Catholic Church says about premarital sex." Ha, ha.

The network aims to give Dems a media organization to counter Limbaugh and others on the right who dominate talk radio. (What, National Public Radio and The New York Times aren't enough?)

The signing of comedian and best-selling author Al Franken gave Air America a liberal drawing card. But if his three-hour show on Monday was typical, he could sink the ship instead of saving it.

Two attempts at humor were offensive. In his "oy, oy show," set to Israeli music, a sidekick reads news reports - in this case, the murder of the Russian-backed president of Chechnya. Franken's role is to pipe up with a lighthearted "oy, oy, oy." Yep, nothing tickles the ribs like assassination.

Franken also imitated a priest giving Communion, saying "Body of Christ" when an imagined pedophile priest was in line but "not for you" when pro-choice politicians came up.

The church was a day-long obsession, as was Limbaugh. He is an "awful man," "a pig" and "a Nazi."

Color me confused. If Franken & Co. hate the pill-popping Limbaugh so much, why imitate his tarpit tone? Sounds like Limbaugh has simply driven them nuts.

Missing was the tension that comes from honest debate. Only Franken had guests voicing even slight distance from the party line, which is that John Kerry is perfect except he should attack Bush more.

The queen of venom, Randi Rhodes, followed Franken in the host slot. Her imitation of a cracker military type telling a soldier to "insert this fluorescent light bulb into that man's buttocks" was revolting. She compared U.S. prisons in Iraq to the "Nazi gulag" and said, "The day I say thank you to Rumsfeld is the same day I'll say thank you to the 12 people who raped me."

Rock bottom came when she compared Bush and his family to the Corleones in the "Godfather" saga. "Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw," she said, imitating the sound of gunfire.

During a day of torture by radio, I heard ads for Hewlett-Packard, Greyhound and, especially, General Motors. I asked GM why it appeared in such shows.

Ryndee Carney, GM's manager of marketing communications, said the ads were wrongly picked up from an earlier deal with WLIB. She said the station was ordered to "cease and desist" yesterday, and added: "GM will not advertise on any Air America affiliates."

Most of the shows on AIR AMERICA are quite boring. The callers are either liberals that stroke each others cocks, or far-right conservatives whose only reasonable argument is "you're a dummy head and my president can beat up your president".

It would be refreshing if the Independants had a show that gave the actual unskewed truth, and let us decide what we think and believe.

I agree.

I'm getting bored listening to both The Patriot 1 & 2, bitching about CNN and it's slant, or actually noticing Fox News' spin.

Then again, if it didn't spin one way, it wouldn't sell, would it?

So is it true that Frankin's show is going away after the election? I got bored within a week so I have no idea what he's said...

I wish they would rebroadcast "The Daily Show" on xm, with the exception of the photo based "shtic" part of the show, I bet it would still work as audio only.. All the tv news shows are on...

Not sure officially but I think Frankin said his job would be done after the election. I would assume the "group" that purchased the time buy on most of the stations wouldn't want to fund it forever. Now if they have ratings (not surprised in NYC) they could continue with ad revenue.

I was unhappy to see Jon Stewart endorse Kerry - I wish these guys would stay middle of the road. His ratings are already slipping..... I do like the show most of the time tho....

AL FRANKEN OVERSTAYS WELCOME AT TALK FEST
Mon Jun 13 2005 08:31:35 ET

AIR AMERICA's Al Franken became “The Guest Who Wouldn’t Leave” after receiving an award at a talk-radio convention in New York over the weekend.

NY POST's John Mainelli reports Monday: The liberal talk-show host was finally forced off the stage -- amidst shouts from supporters and detractors -- after an acceptance speech became a nearly half-hour rant against Bill O’Reilly and the Iraq war.

“Al, hurry up,” said Michael Harrison, publisher of TALKERS mag, the convention sponsor.

“It’s freedom of speech,” said Franken, referring to the Freedom of Speech Award he’d just been given by the magazine.

“It’s not freedom to kill everybody’s evening, so why don’t you wrap it up,” Harrison argued.

“I’m talking about the war in Iraq and I have about two pages left, and I think the people in Walter Reed [Army Medical Center] who’ve been injured deserve the last two pages of my speech,” Franken countered.

“There are people walking out,” said Harrison. “We gave you the award and it’s time to leave.”

“Everyone who wants to leave can leave,” said Franken, addressing hundreds of talk-show hosts and radio execs at a cocktail reception in a downtown hotel.

“Now don’t leave!” Harrison urged the attendees. “We honored you. Now honor us. Don’t kill our party.”

With that -- while some shouted “keep going, keep going” and “let him finish” -- the Air America star wound down his rant by talking about his visits with Iraq-war vets.

“The soldiers were so magnificent,” Franken said, appearing to suppress sobs.

Developing...
