People go to the doctor more now i think. Even i remember when asprin was the wonder drug. Now it seems all of your problems can be solved by some kind of drug ie Prozac, zoloft, ridilen(sp?). Now you can sue companies for anything. I know i have heard that the cost of lawsuits is a small porportion for drug companies, However i believe that many bogus claims are paid to avoid litigation. I have no proof of this but the logic is sound. I work in the auto insurance bussiness, somewhat similar to health insurance in that it involves risk. Litigation is a big concern for us daily. I would like to see Bush make it possible for small bussiness to afford health insurance for its employees. How?..hey, what do i know. Maybe allow similar small bussnesses pool there premiums to make a lower cost for all. just my 2 cents. chad [ 11-04-2004, 17:36: Message edited by: chad ]

I read a stat that over 46% of all personal bankruptcy cases are filed due to unpaid medical bills. I suppose a lot of that is from uninsured people that have a major accident or illness and then have no way to pay for it. Seems like this probably drives the cost up a lot.

In defense of the insurance companies, people are living longer then they ever have before. Keeping Amreican's alive until they are 80 years old is not necessarily cheap, but at the same time, people are getting ill at a younger age due to cancer and other such illnesses that are around today. All together, insurance companies are spending more money trying to allow us to live longer, happier and healthier lives. Look at it this way, we are paying now for the insurance companies pay for our parents medical bills to allow them to live longer due to all the illnesses they incurred during the 70's! (Ok, maybe that is a little bit of a stretch, but you get my point).
