All the NBC bashing that Conan has been doing lately on his show has to be one of the most epic things that has been done in late night talk show television, AND its paying off for him. I don't know if anyone has been watching his show lately, but the couple shows I caught were absolutely hilarious with all the NBC bashing he is doing.
What would be really great is if he gets hired to a different network, is on at the same time as Leno, and steals a shitload of ratings from him. Then NBC will REALLY look like a bunch of morons, lol.

Some quotes from his show recently:
"Welcome to NBC. Where our new slogan is, 'No longer just screwing up prime-time.'"
"When I was a little boy, I remember watching 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson' and thinking 'Someday, I'm going to host that show for 7 months.'"
"NBC says they're planning to have the late night situation worked out before the Winter Olympics start. And trust me, when NBC says something - you can take that to the bank!"
"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is still under fire for remarks he made about President Obama's "blackness." Sources say Reid could face Congressional censure, or even worse, be promised the 'The Tonight Show' at 11:30. I wouldn't wish that on anyone."

I try to tune in every night because his smashing of NBC is epic. Opie and Anthony go over the audio each morning from all 3 shows and every day it just takes a different turn.

The 10 at 10 bit on Leno where he had Jimmy Kimmel on the day after Kimmel did his monologue dressed as Leno had me rolling..

He did a bit on one of his recent shows (i think it was last Thurs) where he listed off a bunch of names for porn movies for him to star in, like "Conan the Bangbarian" and "I'm Coocoo for Coco's Puffs". Hilarious.

Just seven months after he took the job as host of the Tonight <nobr style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; color: darkgreen;" id="itxt_nobr_0_0">Showhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif</nobr> (http://www.wwtdd.com/2010/01/conan-just-got-paid/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wwtdd%2Fatom+%28What+Would+Ty ler+Durden+Do%3F%29#), Conan O’Brien and NBC agreed early this morning on a buy-out for the remainder of his contract, which will allow NBC to replace Conan with Jay Leno. The New York Times says… (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/01/21/business/AP-US-TV-Conan-Leno.html?_r=2&emc=na)
The deal is worth a reported $44 million.
Network spokeswoman Allison Gollust confirmed the deal early Thursday but did not offer any other details. Earlier, The Wall Street <nobr style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; color: darkgreen;" id="itxt_nobr_1_0">Journalhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif</nobr> (http://www.wwtdd.com/2010/01/conan-just-got-paid/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wwtdd%2Fatom+%28What+Would+Ty ler+Durden+Do%3F%29#) reported that O’Brien will get $32 million and that the network agreed to pay his staff $12 million in severance.
And to make sure they pissed away as much money as possible, NBC caved on the “mitigation” clause (http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/21/conan-obrien-nbc-settlement-tonight-show-severance-deal/). If that were still in place, and Conan had signed a deal with Fox paying him 25M a year for example, then NBC would only have been responsible for 7 of the 32M. Now he gets 32 no matter what.
So, to recap, Conan hosted a very successful and popular talk show on NBC for 16 years, but then his show moved 60 minutes earlier and NBC decided he forgot how to host a talk show. Then they freaked the fuck out and panicked like some kind of woman. By some accounts this will cost NBC $250 million, partially because of lost ad revenue but mostly between moving Conan, firing Conan, hiring Jimmy <nobr style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; color: darkgreen;" id="itxt_nobr_4_0">Fallonhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif</nobr> (http://www.wwtdd.com/2010/01/conan-just-got-paid/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wwtdd%2Fatom+%28What+Would+Ty ler+Durden+Do%3F%29#), and creating a show for Leno. It’s fiscal leadership like this that took NBC from a $1.8 billion profit 8 years ago to a $600 million loss this year (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/01/17/2010-01-17_nbc_ceo_jeff_zucker_takes_fall_in_tonight_show_ feud_between_jay_leno_and_conan_o.html). Horny 16-year-olds think about the consequences of their actions better than this. You could take Steve Jobs, chase him with a bear, and he still would have figured this all out better than NBC did.

Ya know i agree the only entity to blame was NBC. The fucked up huge. But to be fair they were faced with a tough situation 5 years ago. It just so happens they about butt fucked themselves as hard as they possibly could.
The only thing that will save them is the fact that Jay Leno has been fairly flexible through the whole thing.
A lot of people are getting after Jay for this and i thing that is quite unfair and all of it is born of jealousy and envy. The simple fact is the Jay into Conan late night was a 1-2 ratings punch of a lifetime. Of which i think jay deserves probably 60% of the credit. Conan found a niche no doubt and he is one of the best comedians of our lifetime. But ultimately Jay was a reason (if just a small part) of Conan's success. They both benefited from eachother.
Like any good business person they both have always sought to further their careers. Conan was getting offers from other networks to compete in the earlier slot and he wanted to go for it. It is neither here nor there if 5 years ago he could have done it. I seem to think the odds were against him but he would have as always had a significant loyal fan base. So NBC realized they were going to lose their epic 1-2 punch and started to try to hold onto both of them. They thought they could do that, when in all reality we now know it backfired big. They would have been better off letting one of em go and just go with the other wholeheartedly.
I think Jay's agreeable nature probably gave them a false sense of control. From everything i know Jay is a great guy and a good businessman. Conan is understandably upset with NBC. They gave Jay over 3 years to get his show some momentum and it turned out huge. I firmly feel they just didn't give Conan enough time, and handicapped the whole mess with the Jay prime time experiment.
NBC had a tough situation but they did themselves no favors by practicing the iron grip approach.

No one watchs late night TV anyway. They make such a big deal over these shows when they get like 5 million viewers lol. I realize that's good for 1130 and later at night but seriously who cares! I personally choose watching reruns of Seinfeld over any late night talk show.
My prediction is Conan goes to Fox in September and competes at 1135. He won't beat Letterman or Leno but his 2.5 million viewers will be 2 million more than Fox usually gets at that time.
P.S. Jay Leno showed how much he sucks by moving to 10PM. Funny how no one watches him when there is actual quality programming to choose from.

I thought Jay's new program was average. The 10 at 10 interview was interesting at first but when it became obvious the they had given the questions to the interviewee ahead of time it became super LAME. Best part was Jim Norton Uninvited guest.

This is why I don't watch late night television. I don't think any of them are funny at all.

I think Conan can be funny but I find the whole format to be tired. Monologue + quirky interactions with the band + pre-cooked interviews with the top celebrities/a clean stand-up comedian + good night!
My watching of Late-night talk shows has become similar to how I watch Saturday Night Live. If I hear about something funny the next day I watch it on youtube or Hulu.

That was funnier than anything I've ever seen on Jay Leno.
And I'd put that at "mildly amusing". Kimmel's deliver is pretty good, I'll give him that. When is he on, like 3am? ;)

Conan O'Brien heads to TBS
by Lynette Rice
In a surprise announcement, TBS announced today that Conan O’Brien will headline an 11 p.m. late night show for the cable network in November. His program will serve as a lead-in to TBS’ fledging Lopez Tonight, which will shift to a midnight time slot. The network said O’Brien only began talking to execs there last week, and Lopez even called O’Brien himself. “I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as a lead-in,” Lopez said in a statement. Added O’Brien, “In three months I’ve gone from network TV to Twitter to performing live in theaters and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.”
