I finally got the chance to see MacGruber and thought it was pretty funny. I can see why it bombed though. The target audience is really the guy who like 30+ who has fond memories of the cheesy 80's action movies in all their one-liner and montage-y glory. However the movie seemed to be marketed to the younger demographic that would typically wait in line for tickets to a Will Ferrall movie.
It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be but I definitely don't regret taking the time to watch it. There were a couple moments I laughed out loud and also a couple of very quotable lines.
I would give it a 3/5, maybe a 3.5 out of 5. If I had to choose between this and Date Night, I'd easily choose MacGruber.
