While watching E3's live stream, I saw the game play for BF3 and actually want to get it. It looks awesome. That tank game play video was great. I'm not much for shooters, but I'll give this one a shot.

Anyone see details on Reckoning? Looks like a pretty sweet RPG for the RPG fanboys(girls) out there.

New to the Battlefield series is a refined damage system for vehicles. "Lightly damaged vehicles recover their armor after a set amount of time (if kept away from enemy fire)," DICE's Battleblog notes. It's a design decision meant to give smart non-engineer class drivers a way to survive longer in the field, provided they're not averse to occasionally retreating and regrouping. Regenerating vehicular damage occurs on a sliding scale, however, and vehicles won't recover armor "past a certain damage threshold."
Each of the game's drivable vehicles include three upgrade slots--one secondary weapon slot, one gadget slot, and one upgrade slot--into which can be plugged an assortment of class-based vehicle perks. More than eighty such perks exist in all, spread across the twelve classes of transportation.....

Initial impressions are it's a really pretty version of every COD and BF game that has come out in the last 5 years. I like it but same shit - you start shooting iron sights against guys with scopes and better guns..... plus unless you were in the closed beta you don't know the maps. Didn't get to drive anything yet.

Joe were you able to get BF3 working with your game pad? For some reason even if I map the keys on the pad to the default and mostly unchangeable keys it won't work.

Yeah it worked, but I have WASD as the central keys on the pad so it was the default setting in game. Was able to remap to use the thumb stick to sprint/jump/crouch/prone.

Game needs a lot of work tho.. Really hurky-jerky for me.. Mostly just died..

Looks pretty tho..

Yeah, I need to get my fraps up and running with the FPS counter. I can't really tell if my vcard is a limitation currently. It seems ok but I am not shooting really well yet and that could be due to my fps dropping when I start firing. Mixed reviews when I look up Ati 5770 on the origin forums - half say it play with high setting - half say it's under the minimum......

I got my game pad to work last night finally. It was my fault all along... Before I installed the beta I updated all the drivers including the G13 game pad driver. I didn't remember there was a trick when installing that driver - you need to "run as administrator" or once the driver is installed windows just ignores the key strokes.. Anyways, the game is much more playable for me now and I even went 10-10 in one game.

My video card is a different story. I got Fraps running on my G15 screen displaying the fps and it is quite disappointing. Set to high (for some reason it auto detected me at high) I get about 28 fps, lowering it to medium I get about 37 fps that drops to 30 in battles. So looks like I might pick up a sub $300 vcard. Joe you think the 6950 is the card to get?

Well I cant really afford any of the decent 570's or 6970's, so I looked for high end overclocked 6950/560 and 2gb of RAM... I like that MSI twin frozr 6950., some report even being able to overclock it to 6970 specs.

I did pick up a GTX 570 (off brand) last night and I was able to double my FPS. A couple of quick tests:

1920x1200 all tests:
BF3 Beta
GTX 570 High Preset 60-70 fps outside 75-85 inside
Ati 5770 High Preset 27-30 fps outside 30-40 inside

TF2
GTX 570 all setting to max 230fps everywhere LOLOL

Glad I got really good results for the money. I remember last time I upgraded and only gained like 7 fps for $250... was nice to see a steady 60+ in Bf3. Nvidia did release beta drivers especially for BF3. They claim a 15% increase in frame rate over the normal driver.

Quick review of the beta:

Game plays pretty well in the beta. Graphics are awesome and the game play is pretty smooth. The only map for most beta testers is Operation Metro and it's pretty small with no vehicles. One of the weak points in the past Battlefield games is the close combat has always felt to me as an afterthought. In BF3 I think it's on par with the COD games (that are all close combat style). I prefer to drive stuff around and blow up the environment but since you can't really test that yet its pretty fun to shoot at other players close up. One of the additions this time around is that sniper scopes reflect and you can easily see snipers positions (not sure if they only flare if they are zoomed in or if it's always). On large maps I am sure as a sniper you would still get tons of kills but at least you can see where the fuckers are hiding and go kill them.

I haven't unlocked many load outs or weapons yet but it looks like some really cool stuff can be unlocked and there are many specs you can pick from.

One thing I don't like is to zoom in you have to hold down the right mouse button it's not a toggle like most BF games. I could not find a option to change this maybe it will be added in the release.

The browser based "origin" client turns out to not be as horrible as I first thought. It works pretty well and it's nice to see if your friends are online without going into the game like BFBC2. Not sure if the origin client can pop up a notification when a friend joins a game like you can do on Steam. Also the webpage gives you tons of statistics.

Updated beta out today:

Game studio DICE has launched the first of several updates to help squash bugs in the beta for its first-person shooter Battlefield 3.

Complete details on the changes can be found on the official Battlefield blog. Among some of the notables:

-- Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
-- Issue with spawning on dead squadmates fixed.
-- Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.

DICE also added some tweaks to scoring and rank progression.

While the tweaks clear up several bugs, there are still a few big ones lingering, such as the issues with going prone. I still see players hide inside walls or drop into the ground.

The beta runs until Oct. 10, while the full game launches Oct. 25 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

One thing I don't like is to zoom in you have to hold down the right mouse button it's not a toggle like most BF games. I could not find a option to change this maybe it will be added in the release.




I think there is a zoom toggle at the bottom of the keybind list.

Played the new map a bit, tanks are fun, but I've haven't got the arc down yet.. Better map than metro, big battle. Helo and Jets look cool but looks like no flying for me yet, old Wingman Extreme joystick doesn't really work. Has multiple commands bound to one action, including camera changes bound to the joystick. Even tried to fix it in options, but apparently the key binds didn't register.. Cant "clear" a key bind and just leave it blank either. And just like BFBC2, shit is reversed afaik tell... Will consider getting a new joystick but I want to know that shit works.. Keyboard flyers prob have a advantage.

if you were concerned about the game after experiencing often bug-ridden beta, you will sleep soundly knowing that this most recent build of the game played (and looked) like a game ready to be shipped. As DICE producer Patrick Bach reassured me, this most recent build that I experienced is STILL not the final build.


All the frame rate issues, glitches, pops and sound drops of the beta were nowhere to be found. Bach reiterated that the beta was already a month and a half old before it was launched because of the time it takes to certify for release. It’s amazing how much polish they were able to put on the game since the beta.


Though I never doubted DICE, I can compare the beta experience to a truck drivers windshield: It was hard to see what was in front of me with the constant barrage of bugs.

Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent. The further the attackers progress in the map, the more vehicle warfare will be present. There is also a large tunnel section dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map, and the view when you look up at the starting location is spectacular.

Firestorm - One of our largest and most vehicle-friendly map, Operation Firestorm is the classic Battlefield gameplay taken to the extremes. Size-wise, and with some puzzle skills, you could actually place three Atacama Deserts -- one of the largest maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 -- within the playable area of Operation Firestorm. This is a wide-open desert map where the burning oil fields in one direction are contrasted by clear blue sky in the other direction. Construction sites dotting the area bring interesting possibilities for infantry to hide in elevated positions, spot vehicles, and take them down by mortar or RPG.

Yeah, it unlocked early for us on the west coast, got it at 8:30 instead of 11pm.. you?

Played for a solid 2 hours. No crashes, very stable. 60fps with my new card/new drivers. Very cool game, far smoother than the beta. Maps are quite gorgeous, the lighting affects are really fucking cool, and the sound is the best yet in a game imo.. Been in some pretty intense firefights already.. Going prone and having the bipod for the hvy machine gun is great.. Gotta really pay attention for those guys lying down... Doesn't seem quite as destructible as BC2, but oh well.. Its a five star game. :D Heard the SP was weak, but i don't play them anyway.

I had one crash to black screen last night. Not sure if the server crashed or what. Otherwise, the game is awesome. I played a 64 player map last night wow lots of people to shoot at. Tanks are fun but I have some control issues to work out. I think I need to spend some time on a empty server to learn to fly and work out my issues. Can't wait to play more this week.

I hate playing on maps I don't know. I keep getting shot in the back. And I can't figure out where the full screen map is. I actually found myself picking operation metro a couple times last night because I know the map so well.... and I get a lot of kills on that map since I know the hiding places.

Not sure what the deal was last night but I kept getting kicked from the CSM server after like 20 mins. Maybe graphical going to try new drivers and make sure my case cooling is up to par.

Played tonight for a while, we crashed 3 times in 5 hours, so its probably not you. I think the game is just not stable yet, but I haven't played on any other server that long to confirm they are regularly crashing...

I haven't had a crash all weekend even on the CSM server. I think it was a heat related Gfx card issue. I turned a couple fans in my case to medium (from low) and I haven't had a problem.

Couple tips I have picked up while leveling. If you want points sit in a tank and run from point to point capping (obvious I know). I was with a really really good tank pilot the other night and I think we both got like 6000 pts in one round just doing that. I am leveling up support full time and I think it's better to unlock everything in one class first rather then spread it around. I like the mortar but how to you stop using it and go back to your gun?? Spotting, dropping ammo, and assigning your squad to a task (if you are squad leader) gets you a lot of bonus points. If I see a choke point with a lot of players in one area I always run through and drop ammo - tons of ammo points.

Got a joystick working despite getting pretty proficient at flying with mouse/keyboard.. Joystick is def a little smoother tho..

First thing to try is to clear out all the joystick keybinds under the Infantry and Ground Vehicle categories in the keybind menu.

Then adjust the main defaults under jets & helicopters to make sure they are the right direction (my default pitch up/down was reversed for example)... and walla...



Another key bind tip, just like back in the BF1942 days, you can use the same button for multiple keybinds.. So buttons specific to infantry can be bound to something else under the vehicle section. I do this with my thumb buttons on my mouse which are reload & jump while infantry, but are countermeasures an cycle weapon in the tank/APC vehicles...

Battlefield 3's first expansion pack, Back to Karkand, will be available in December, developer DICE has announced. The DLC pack will include four maps from Battlefield 2, remade in the game's shiny new Frostbite 2 engine. Gulf of Oman, Sharqi Peninsula, Strike at Karkand, and Wake Island will all be included in the bundle.

In addition, the expansion pack includes Conquest Assault, and new "assignments" to complete for unlocks.

Conquest Assault:

One team is specified as the attacker (pre-determined, depending on the map). The attacking team starts out with an uncaptureable base and 10% more tickets than the defending team, which holds all or most of the captureable control points on the map at the beginning of the round. Ticket bleed is inflicted when one team holds all the captureable control points, so the attacking team usually starts with ticket bleed at the round's start and must neutralize at least one flag to stop it.

Joe are there some hacks out for BF3? Seemed like that guy last night on CSM raped us pretty good. I remember shooting him as he killed me and it showed him at 0% health. I assume it was rounding but wow he was good. Glad to be in teamspeak with the admin that kicked those guys (even if they are just that good it's not fun).

I'm a terrible judge, but I would think you've heard Gene and James talking about it in TS? Yeah, I think there is some evidence of cheats. Gene's trying to get PB to take screenshots and it looks like a total pita. Funniest moment for me so far was using the EOD robot to kill a guy. He saw it coming and panicked. He was running all over the place and shooting at the robot and I was chasing him with it. He was shooting at the robot while running backwards. He finally cornered himself on a rock and I lit him up. I was laughing so hard my 3 year old asked me what was wrong.

Not funny but my favorite so far is finding a low wall to lay behind and just gun people down as they pass it. Seems players don't respect a low wall like a normal wall and look to the right and left as they run by it.

There will always be cheating in most online FPS games now. There is really no way to stop them with the inherent nature of FPS online games. Anyone proficient enough can set up auto-aim hacks. (dont count me as one, but ive read a few articles) honestly its one of the reasons i got out of FPS games a while back.

I have only set up my chopper binds but I think the way to fix it is rebind the axis for the one that's not working. So if you jump in a jet and the axis is wrong re-bind is by pressing the wrong way on the joystick. I had to do that when I first set up my chopper binds or my other stuff was backwards.

Punk buster is doing a pretty good job of banning cheaters IMO. I also suggest playing on the CSM server because they ban anyone that might be cheating (or even some players that are just super good).

Speaking of CSM server - it looks like they might have figured out how to fill it again. I did not have fun on the server last night - Joe's friends are just too good and I felt like a punching bag going 2-15 and 5-17 or something. It was much better after the public players started joining and the CSM guys started stacking on my team.

Also note that the Vent server is up and running for when we aren't on the CSM server. They really have dropped the price on monthly vent pricing..... $2.50 a month for a 10 slot.

Again maybe im missing something but it seems like when i bind an axis it simply fills both slots of each direction on that axis by default. So for pitch up/down if i go to bind pitch up and push the joystick back it fills both pitch up and pitch down slots with the same axis by default. In other words there is no way to change the direction in there. Its only controlled by the vertical flight direction setting in the main part of the key bind options. Invert or normal and it affects both the chopper and the jet. Only they are fucking backwards from each other in practice.

Maybe you're right, with that game you spend so much fucking time in the key binding menus at first it makes ones eyes bleed. So i had to get out of there.

BTW the default key bindings are fucking awful...

It doesn't say +/- #Axis, but I think its still making the distinction. Just do it systematically, and be carefull that your binding the right action. Try it the way it should be, and if that doesn't work, rebind them backwards and see if that does it.

With BC2 we had to fix this via Regedit's. But in BF3 mine was initially reversed (at least one of them one, I think the helo pitch) and I went in and remapped and it worked.

It also doesn't have the rudder defaulted to the twist of a joystick (for me at least) it was some other joystick keys. So it must be set from the twist.

Make sure you clear out all the joystick commands under infantry and vehicles too.

Some joysticks might just not work either. My old Logitech 3D wingman with a serial connection/usb adapter on it was interfering with my mouse regardless of what I did. Got a new Thrustmaster (gayest name.) T-stick and no conflict. I know another CSM guy is using a Logitech Freedom w/out probs.


The main extra's buttons for helo/jet are;
-Countermeasures
-select alt weapon (or something like that)
-and (jet) afterburner.

And then the chase cam can be helpful to have bound, you can get an idea where other aircraft are/helo landing. The "look left/right/behind" doesn't work, and there is no standard alt-fire or what would be right-click.

Yeah if we have to wait that long again, I will scramble the teams up after 1 round so the beating is spread around a little more (although you'll find some of them won't tolerate losing very long, lol).... I have admin&procon for the server.

And ffr if the CSM in "favorites" disappears, its cause they're resetting the GUID? to get the server full... Search "CSM"

Holy shit it's been forever since I posted here! Sorry, forgot about Noncompliance :)

Yes I know I'm late to the forums here, but I bought BF3 and am very impressed with the graphics, sounds, controls, everything, it's pretty incredible.

I just suck. Tremendously. I don't know maps, I have no special stuff yet, as I'm just a private, and I definitely play the "move to contact" Counter-Strike way of playing, which I'm discovering is a terrible way to play BF3 since I'm dead the second I see (or don't see) my opponents.

Oh, and here was my first BF3 experience: I log on to CSM server to see how the game works, start wandering around like "ooh look at these graphics, damn!" and suddenly I'm shot and the dude runs over and starts teabagging me. Then I read his name: [CSM]Joemama. Thanks Joe. :)

Might try these tweaks to reducing crashing... Overall I've been pretty stable.

Running a 6950 Twin Frozr III, not OC'd but shaders unlocked.

Everything is on High, except:
Mesh = medium
AA Deferred = off
Ambient Occlusion = SSAO
Motion Blur = uncheck
Enlighten = uncheck.

Ive only had one crash on mine (a lockup actually) since i got the game. Other than that i only get the very brief graphics hitch flashes once in a while (def driver related).

I'm fairly sure that one crash was caused by my computer's observation of my terrible gameplay and thus decided it needed to end the heinous embarrassment i was subjecting myself to.

Right about the time they realized development costs for modern high end gaming does not at all provide ROI when the price point is stuck at $50-60 per title per copy...

I think that is the only option when they cannot get people to bite on monthly subscription and content update fees.

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.

I created a Noncompliance platoon. Make sure to become a member as it combines stats etc. You can be a member of more then one platoon. I am top tank driver! (until someone else joins)

Isn't that the M4A1? Yeah, one the one you have first is full-auto iirc, and the second one you open is SS-3Burst only.. Just go back to the other one if you want full auto.

Just move us to the "good" team when you see us on the server. I am one of the guys sitting around seeding the server early in the night so you can jump into a full server :)

I like your guys TS but when others are online we hang on the vent server so we can talk. I don't think any of us feel comfortable really talking a lot in the TS server. And there is only that one channel.

I had it set up the other night to be in both but my PPT button got messed up and was doing both.

I found that the Metro map is the best map to power level on. Find a 64 player Metro map server,get on there and drop ammo and medic pacs you will gets points like crazy!

I bought the game on black Friday, but didn't realize I had selected the physical CD rather than a download. So, I need to wait for it to be shipped. I called today since it has been 5 days, and they said the game is on backorder since they had so many orders recently. Hopefully I will get it soon...

Did you try to register the game in Origin? I think after you do that you can digital download the game anytime you like. I am surprised they sold you a physical copy for $29. I thought it was DD only.

I downloaded Origin, but it had no record on the Origin program that I had ordered the game. That was one of the reasons that I called. I was not provided with a CD key or anything that would allow me to register the product on Origin.

I just received the game today, so I will be playing it some over the weekend.

Hi all,

We will release an update to the PC version of BF3 on Dec 6th -- that is, Tuesday morning around 8AM GMT next week. This coincides with an upgrade of many of our central systems which will be down for some hours starting around that time.

It will be both a client update -- approximately 2GB in size -- and a server update.

The client/server combination will be incompatible with older clients/servers. All players will be prompted to download the update once it has been released. All RSP companies will begin upgrading their servers at the same time.

The client update is large because it contains most of the content for Back to Karkand. This is not ideal, so we aim to make potential DLC content in the future as optional downloads.



Bugfixes:
Fixed a problem with spawn timer now showing blue border on startup and lost spawn point
Fixed a problem where player who joined queuing on End of round got spawn screen stuck on screen, but unable to do anything with it untill next round loaded
Fixed a problem where camera would change to 3rd person on killcam when killcam was turned off in server settings
Fixed stat references on several dogtags
Fixed for surveillance ribbon not counting TUGS
Fixed a missing combat area lines on the minimap for Grand Bazaar conquest small
Moved a tank spawn in US base on Caspian Border so it would not be destroyed by a falling tree
Fixed a problem where placing C4 with the russians soldier was playing US faction VO
Fixed a problem where TV guided missiles could be shot into its own helicopter and destroy it
Fixed a problem when attempting to fire lock on weapons without a target
Tweaked the chat, it should now be a bit easier to read
Fixed several vehicles that did not properly shoot rockets and guns towards their predictive sights
Fixed the G17 Supressed Laser not working properly
Added alternate HUD colors to help colorblinds
Added a network interpolation setting. This allows users with good bandwidth reduce latency, but might increase some stuttering. The user can find what works best for his connection by tweaking the slider.
Increased the Spawn protection radius on TDM
Fixed a problem with smoke on land vehicles, Missiles should now miss more often
Fixed a problem where users could end up with IRNV scope in any vehicle
Fixed a problem where player dies if vaulting over a ledge and into water while sprinting
Fixed several crashes and increased general stability
Fixed a problem where the user was unable to revive two players that have the bodies one over the other
Fixed so you can assign an axis and use as a digital input. This makes it possible for the player (on pc) to assign one of the sticks on a gameped to be used for throttle/brake.
Fixed a problem with the Kill camera acting up when suiciding from parachute
Fixed air radar was showing to much. now lasertagged, heatsignature above threshold, enemy missiles and capture points are only visible on air radar
Fixed a problem where the game would enter a technical hang if the user pressed pause menu and tilde at the same time
Fixed a problem where you could get green flashes on screen
You can now reassign cycle weapons
Fixed so the weapon zooms automatically after bipod deploy is gone when using zoom toggle
Fixed a problem where the parachute would stay stuck in air if the owner was killed


Balance Tweaks:
Fixed several weapons so they are properly suppressed and hide the player on the minimap when fired.
Tweaked Tactical Light so it is not as blinding over longer ranges.
Tweaked the IRNV scope so it is limited to usage only at close range.
Reduced heat masking effectiveness of Spec Ops Camo.
Fixed a bug where Ammo spec would give additional 40mm grenades instead of Frag spec.
Increased the number of additional 40mm grenades from Frag spec.
Fixed so AT mines only live for 20 seconds after a player dies to prevent infinite mines. (We want to make a different fix in the future, it’s in JIRA).
Increased the Time to Live on sniper caliber rounds to allow extreme distance shots.
Fixed several weapon descriptions, calibers, and fire rates. The weapons themselves have not changed.
Fixed so the M9 and MP443 pistol can be equipped by the opposing faction when it is unlocked at 100 kills.
Fixed Laser Guided Missiles missing their targets if the target is moving too fast.
Reduced the effectiveness of Stealth on Air Vehicles.
Reduced the effectiveness of Beam Scanning for Jets.
Reduced the damage done to Armored Vehicles and Infantry from AA guns.
Increased the damage RPGs and Tank shells do to AA vehicles.
Slightly decreased the accuracy for all weapons on fully automatic, burst fire is now preferable at mid to long range.
Increased the effective accuracy of long bursts for LMGs when using a bipod.
Slightly increased the range of the 44magnum bullets.
Increased the close range damage of 4.6x30mm and 5.7x28mm bullets.
Increased the reload time of the Mortar from 3.5sec to 4.8sec and increased the time it takes before a shell hits the ground.
Reduced the aimed accuracy bonus given by a Suppressor for the MP7, P90, PP2000, PP-19, and UMP45.
Increased the range and FOV for designating targets with the SOFLAM and vehicle Laser Designators.
Decreased the effectiveness of 12g FRAG ammo when equipped on semi-automatic and automatic shotguns.
Slightly Increased the power of Fighter Jet Cannons against all vehicle targets, especially Helicopters.
Decreased the power of Miniguns against Jets and Helicopters.
Increased the power of Stingers against Jets.
Flares reload times for Jets and Helicopter Gunners have been increased.
Tweaked the AN94 so its burst fire better conveys the real world advantage offered by this weapon.
Added Single Shot to the AN94 as an available fire mode.
Slightly increased the recoil on the M416 and removed the Burst Fire mode (this weapon incorrectly had burst fire, which was not authentic).

Also, it will once again be possible to reduce the number of players required to start a round to 1 both in ranked and unranked mode. We changed it back after getting a lot of negative feedback from both individuals and the RSP companies.

Our plan is to introduce a warm-up mode, where players can move about and play the game, but with scoring disabled; then, when the number of players goes above the threshold -- that's when the real round starts.

I have been having problems when the match is over and the map switches where I get a blank black screen and have to close the game with task manager. Hopefully this gets fixed either by the patch or the new video card I just ordered. My old card caused my comp to crash/power off during newer games (SC2, BF3). I just ordered this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150563. Very good deal with the rebate, and it has a lifetime warranty. I am switching to Radeon because they offer a lot more bang for your buck now and I have had problems with my past 2 Nvidia cards.

It is really hard getting started in BF3 when everyone you're up against has all of the "cheat" items like scopes, IR vision, etc. Most of the time I don't even see the person that killed me even if they aren't a sniper. I have decided to mostly stick to driving tanks with an engineer, which has worked okay. You're pretty much a sitting duck in a tank though if there is a decent helo pilot on the other team.

Yeah repair is a good way to get points, so it playing support or assault and making sure you drop lots of health/ammo packs near people, and getting the paddles opened up so you can revive people... Go for high point activities like that and you will open up your perks fast.

Couple questions:

I just got IR smoke for tanks... how do you use it? I mashed buttons but couldnt figure it out. Is it effective at all and in what situations do you use it?

How do you pick up ammo/health packs? Do you just move through them or do you need to hit a button?

The IR smoke is a countermeasure for Heat Seekers. You need to look at keybinds under tank & aircraft and see what your default countermeasure key is, I changed mine so I don't know the default.

There is a three pattern beep you hear when someone is targeting you with HS..
Beep-Beep-Beep while they are acquiring, solid beep when they have lock, and a quick dit-dit-dit-dit-dit when missile has been launched. Ideally you don't deploy the countermeasure until you hear they have fired, although if you do it when they get lock but haven't fired it will break their lock and they have to reacquire.


You don't pick up health and ammo packs, you just stand by them. Ammo takes a while and 1 ammo pack will not be enough to fully resupply you, takes a few.

I think I have mostly figured out the game now and all the display details. Seems like the big problem for noobs like me is everyone using that IR scope to find you easily when you cant see them, but that will get nerfed with the patch which should make things easier for me.

The IR scope isn't that over powered it just allows you to see players better. I think the major problem new players have is poopy weapons and they just don't know where the cover is. I know almost every hiding spot on Caspian now and that helps a ton. And nice scopes and weapons helps me pick off the newbs running around like idiots...

Can you use other peoples nicer weapons or only the items you yourself have unlocked? I loved counterstrike so when I dont see anyone on just get destroyed at team deathmatch. I like that I can focus on upgrading specific weapons that way. It also is a quick 10 to 12 minute match on some servers. When I see Scott on, I just follow him around on the big maps lol. Ill get the hang of it.

I think you can use other people's weapons. I have only done it once.. I don't know if they drop every time someone dies. It may be that only your squad's weapons drop for you to pick up. I did pick up a sniper rifle that had a nice scope on it once though.

I am finding out that the most important thing about this game is to work together with your squad. Their names and classes show up yellow on your HUD and you can always see them on your HUD. You really don't want to be on your own ever unless you are Recon/Sniper. You always want to be near an assault and/or support squad member. If you don't have an assault member in your squad, switch to one because healing is very important. You should almost always be spawning on an alive squad member, unless they are in a really bad situation and you will just die when you spawn. Spawning at bases is just a waste of time and doesn't help anyone.

I like operating vehicles more than being infantry and have been playing an engineer. But it is probably better as an engineer to be the top gunner so you can get out and repair while the driver can still shoot the cannon. If you aren't operating a vehicle as an engineer though, you should be focusing on laying mines on the road out of the other team's main base and using rockets to take down any that get past those. Also, I have learned to use my RPG more on infantry that are near cover or through a doorway in a confined space.

The other very important thing to learn is to not just run around. You die way too much by doing that. You could get away with doing it in games like CS and 1942, but in this game you're just an easy moving target. Being patient, sneaking, and using cover are key.

By "kit" I mean their loadout, weapons included. Yes if you pick up a Colonels kit you get their gun and whatever unlocks they have equiped. Everybody drops their kit when killed.

Origin has soo many issues uggg. I really really want to like the web based interface... It's nice to be able to login on any computer and see who's playing etc. But damn Steam has been out for years - Origins should have learned from the many many mistakes they made.

My initial feeling on the update is: I am optimistic it might have fixed my crashing! Played for two hours no crashes. Usually this would have been 3-4 crashes BUT I have gone for a couple hours with no crashes at times. I did pick up a older generation SSD on clearance to attempt the only fix I haven't tried........ reformat/reinstall. Guess I will wait and see if that is necessary.

Game play is improved but yeah the IR scope is JUNK now. In the subway you can't even see other players that aren't up close. The mine nerf does suck and on my M249 with silencer I felt I had to hit players 2x as much to bring them down. Support guns just spray after the first 3 shots it seems. I didn't have this problem on Engineer - I could go full auto with no loss of accuracy.

Yeah, the black screen problem between map changes seems to be fixed, since it didn't happen to me at all last night over an hr of play. Overall the game loading and stability seems much better.

Got my new joystick yesterday... configured it this morning. It is a little screwed up to configure at first but I got it. I had to invert the directions so they worked right, and for some reason it calls my fire button Pad Down :confused:

So last week I grabbed a cheap SSD and reinstalled Win7 on it as a last ditch effort to fix my crashing. Guess what? It acts exactly the same. Same crashes and about the same frequency - FML. I really like BF3 but I spend about the same amount of time researching fixes for the crash (that never work) as I do in game :(

Ordered it directly from the Logitech website. Works great. Configuring the key bindings was a little weird though. I had to invert the directions since it only binds the axis rather than specific directions on the axis, and the directions are backwards on normal (at least for how it makes sense to me). Also, for whatever reason when I bound some of the buttons like the trigger button, it bound it as "pad down" instead of button 1. It still works though, so just ignore what it calls the button in the key bindings after you press it.

I read some information about the SCAR-H after they nerfed it in the last patch. The SCAR at close range used to kill in 3 hits since one bullet did enough damage to drop a player 34%. That was why everyone used it. Now it only does 30% damage per hit at close range, so it takes 4 hits to kill. All other assault and engineer weapons that have the 5.56 rounds do 25% at close range, which means they also kill in 4 hits.

So, there is really no advantage anymore to using the SCAR. Actually, it probably has a disadvantage over other comparable engineer weapons, such as the G36C, due to the rate of fire, clip capacity, and recoil. The SCAR fires at 600 whereas the G36C fires at 750. And, the SCAR clips only hold 20 rounds as opposed to 30 like most other guns. The recoil on the G36C is much lower than the SCAR, so you get better accuracy.

IMO, as an engineer I would stick with the starting guns until you unlock the G36C, then use that.

I think they fixed this with the last patch, pretty sure it saves map to map, but might not save when you leave the game.

I still have IFVR on my main guns, still great for picking out people trying to hide.

Yesterday I just had the most rewarding experience I have had so far in this game where I was killed in a tank because a damn Recon put down a SOFLAM and I got bombarded with 2 heat seekers. Just before getting blown to pieces, I spotted a big bright red light on top of a tall building in one of the new maps. After respawning, I zoomed a jeep over there, climbed to the top, and knifed him.

That was when I learned that you really need to always be repositioning yourself because if you kill someone while camping, they are going to go to that spot right away for a revenge kill, especially if you are a sniper. I can see how Recon would be kinda tough.

I also recently had the funniest experience I have had so far, which was stepping around the corner of a wall only to immediatly eat the bumper of a jeep going sprint speed... I had exactly 0.1 seconds to react, which was spent by beginning to exclaim "FUCK!"

Been play a lot more lately trying to finish leveling sniper and medic classes. I am pretty bad at both but I completely destroy as support with the M60 and a good scope. You guys that own the game should jump on if you see people playing.

I totally agree. I don't like the close stuff.... however I also don't like the vehicles just destroying everyone that is trying to enjoy a nice infantry fight..... Most servers are set to instant respawn on vehicles now and it's super annoying. I like to be rewarded for destroying a tank for at least a few minutes before another shows up.

Big patch coming soon. Looks like they nerfed some weapons (FAAMAS) and made it slightly easier to shoot close aircraft down.


FIXES FOR PC SERVER OPERATION
- Having the same map occur multiple times in the maplist now works properly
- If adding a new map to the servers maplist after a clear and then running “mapList.runNextRound” the server will ignore any remaining rounds on the map that it still run since before the clear and move to the new first map in the list. The server will now have reset the current rounds per map and run the map in the list for the number of rounds stated when adding the map.
- Maplist can contain up to 1000 entries now
- mapList.list will return at most 100 entries. To get the entire list, perform mapList.list repeatedly with increasing offsets (like banList.list)

GENERAL GAMEPLAY FIXES
-Players should no longer take fall damage from short falls.
-Players now get up from Prone slightly faster, allowing better odds of getting away from a grenade or threat when prone.
-Fixed some situations that would unintentionally make a player unrevivable.
-Reduced the black screen fade in time on spawn. The fade is still necessary for properly streaming in loading content at spawn, but it has been substantially reduced.
-Increased the spawn protection time from 1sec to 2sec. The protection will still be immediately canceled as soon as the player moves or shoots.
-Spawn protection will no longer be canceled by the player looking around.
-Increased the speed at which a player regains accuracy when aiming after moving for a more responsive experience. Firing before fully zoomed will still result inaccurate fire.
-Increased the inaccuracy and recoil added when a player is fully suppressed.
-Shotgun Buck and Flechette rounds now have a less suppressive effect at medium to long range.
-Tweaked the damage levels of Buck and Flechette rounds to balance them with other weapons.
-Improved the suppression of the .44 magnum, .357 magnum, and the 5.8x42mm DAP88 rounds from the Type88 sniper.
-Attempting to Crouch (like Prone) will now properly interrupt Sprint.
-Increased the effectiveness of Suppression Resist Specialization.
-Parachutes now respond to turn and throttle inputs more quickly.
-Switching from primary weapons to sidearms and back now takes less time.
-Increased the effectiveness of explosive resistance.
-Tweaked bipod deploy settings so players can no longer deploy a bipod in places higher than chin level.
-The bipod should now be more reliable when deploying on top of sloped objects like cars and rocks.
-Fixed several issues with vaulting objects, especially for thin railings.
-The Knife now only takes two swipes to kill when attacking from a position where a takedown is not possible.
-CRAM weapons on Carriers now count towards stationary weapon awards.

VEHICLE FIXES
-The A10 properly gives Jet score again.
-Unguided tank rounds and RPGs will now instantly destroy Jets, Attack Helicopters, and Scout Helicopters.
-Increased the damage the MBT’s primary weapon does to the front and side armor of other main battle tanks. Primarily this means 1 less shot to the front, and very good hits to the side can result in a 1 hit to disable.
-Slightly reduced the repair speed of the repair tool.
-Increased the damage done by TOW weapons to armored vehicles.
-Increased the rate of fire and minimum damage of the Coax HMG.
-Increased the damage mounted gunner .50cal HMGs do at long range.
-Increased the power of the repair tool when killing soldiers or destroying vehicles slightly.
-Fixed a problem when locking on to two nearby targets, the locking should no longer jump rapidly between multiple targets. This applies to all locking weapons and Laser Designators.
-Increased the damage of the Javelin and Air to Ground missiles against laser designated targets.
-Javelin missiles fired without Laser targeting now do more damage to the side and rear of MBTs.
-Slightly reduced the locking time of all weapons vs Laser Designated targets.
-Laser Guided missiles can now be distracted by Flares.
-Increased the locking distance for AGM Missiles for Jets when locking on laser designated targets.
-Reduced the locking time for the AGM Missiles for Jets to make them more viable against ground targets.
-Reduced the locking time for AA Missiles for Jets to make them more viable against air targets.
-Flares will no longer break the lock of a vehicle that is locked on, it will only distract the missiles.
-Flares now more reliably distract missiles, especially for Helicopters.
-Flares for Jets and Choppers now reload at 11 seconds again, except for the gunner, which remains unchanged at 20sec.
-AA Missiles are more difficult to dodge in Jets, this was unintended behavior that created an imbalance against skilled pilots.
-AA Missiles should no longer kill the pilot instead of the vehicle.
-AA Missiles should no longer detonate before hitting their target or a Flare/ECM chaff cloud.
-Reduced the damage AA missiles do to jets to 45%.
-Fixed the SU-35 firing Air to Air missiles at a lower rate of fire than other vehicles.
-The IGLA and Stinger now lock on much more quickly and disable an attack aircraft in 1 hit, but have significantly reduced range. This should allow Stingers to mount an effective close range point defense, without dominating an entire airspace.
-Increased the speed of the Helicopter AA missiles lock on to reduce the tedious nature of Helicopter dogfights and improve the Helicopter’s defensive abilities vs Jets.
-Slightly reduced the damage of Jet cannons against Aircraft. Damage is now only slightly higher than it was originally at launch.
-Increased RPG and SMAW damage against aircraft.
-Guided Rockets will now only track ground targets, as originally intended.
-Reduced the direct damage done by Attack Helicopter gunners vs Armor.
-Helicopter guns should now suppress correctly.
-Improved the accuracy of the Attack Helicopter’s Rocket Pods, both guided and unguided.
-Slightly increased the damage of Attack Helicopter’s Rocket Pods vs Infantry and other Helicopters.
-Additional fixes have been made to the TV missile to prevent it from blowing up the lauching vehicle.
-The Mi28 has received upgrades to its climbing and yawing abilities.
-Fixed an issue where guided rockets from the Mi28 did not follow the crosshair properly.
-Improved the accuracy of the Mi28 gun to match the AH1 gun.
-Increased the direct hit damage of the APFSDS rounds for the IFVs.
-Decreased the locking time of the IFV Guided Missile to make it more viable as an unlock.
-Miniguns and Helicopter Gunners now more quickly destroy parked cars.
-Increased the power of explosions from cars and other explosive static objects.
-Dying from the explosion of a car or other explosive static object should now correctly credit the player who caused the explosion.
-Adjusted the F35′s Center of Mass and Hover Engine for more stable, level flight in all flight modes.
-Updated the F35 weapon systems to be consistent with the other Jets.
-The F35 will now only attempt to enter Hover at low altitudes, though it will maintain the hover until forward flight is resumed, even if it reaches high altitude.
-The F35 and SU35 now properly have Ejection seats to prevent players from being killed when exiting the vehicle.
-Changed the Kornets to TOW launchers on Wake Island and moved the spawn position of the AAV to a more level position.

-Players will no longer receive suicides or team kills if they crash their vehicle (dying is punishment enough).

-Below Radar will now also prevent the lock on of Stinger and IGLA missiles.

-Tanks can no longer drive into the water and cross the Wake Island lagoon completely submerged.

WEAPONS
Several weapons have had recoil or accuracy adjusted in orer to balance these weapons in effectiveness and also increase the feeling of individuality in each gun

-Added Extended Mags to the ASVAL. The Extended Mags can be unlocked at 200 kills with the AS VAL.
-Reduced the recoil of the SKS rifle and increased its maximum damage at close range.
-Fixed aimed firing max accuracy on the Pecheneg to be consistent with other LMGs.
-Semiautomatic and automatic shotguns firing FRAG rounds now do slightly less splash damage.
-The M26 MASS frag and slug rounds are now the more effective pump action versions.
-The M26 MASS and M320 now benefit from the Laser Sight when mounted with an Underslung Rail.
-Fixed the bolt action timer on the L96 that would cause an animation glitch.
-9x39mm rounds no longer benefit from the Sniper headshot bonus.
-Increased the damage of the 9x39mm rounds at long range.
-Fixed the AKS74u damage at max range, it was incorrectly higher than other carbines.
-Increased the damage of the .357 and .44 magnum rounds at max range.
-All semiautomatic and bolt weapons, including all shotgun slugs, now have their maximum damage out to 15m.
-Semiautomatic weapons will no longer “jam” if the player presses fire faster than the weapon is capable of shooting. Some semi-automatic weapons have had their rates of fire adjusted to fit this change.
-Bolt action sniper rounds now have a chance to kill at close range if the player is hit in the upper chest.
-Semiautomatic sniper rifles, Assault Rifles, LMGs, and shotgun slugs now have more consistent damage over long range. At maximum range shots to the legs will not require more hits to kill.
-The spread for Flechette rounds has been reduced slightly on all shotguns.
-The spread for Buckshot has been reduced on the M1014, DAO-12, and S12k. These weapons have an accuracy advantage over the USAS12 but are not as accurate as the 870.
-Zooming shotguns with Buckshot and Flechette loads will now result in a slightly tighter cone for the pellets.
-Reduced the delay time between quick knife attempts slightly. Attacks with the knife drawn are still significantly faster.
-Fixed the Rate of Fire when the USAS and MK3A1 are equipped with FRAG rounds. All other shotguns correctly had a reduced rate of fire with frags, except the USAS and MK3A1.
-Fixed an Accuracy bug when the MK3A1 shotgun is equipped with FRAG or Slug rounds.
-Shotguns equipped with slugs will no longer automatically begin reloading if the weapon is zoomed when the clip is empty. This allows players to see where the slug lands before reloading.
-Fixed 12g FRAG rounds not breaking glass at long range.
-Players can now earn the shotgun Ribbon using the M26 MASS.
-The underslung grenade launchers for Russian rifles now properly report GP30 in the kill log.
-Fixed the AEK971 40mm shotgun round listing itself as FRAG in the kill log.
-Fixed the 40mm smoke grenade so it no longer passes through soldiers and unbroken objects before it detonates.
-M27 IAR: No change. The M27 is a heavier version of the M416, giving it good all-around performance though it has worse performance on the move.
-RPK-74M: Reduced the initial recoil and vertical recoil. The RPK-74M is a more stable firing platform than the comparable M27, though it lacks the M27′s higher rate of fire.
-M249: Added an initial recoil. The M249 is the fastest firing belt fed LMG, giving it superior suppressive and damage abilities. The initial recoil makes it a bit harder to run and gun, while making little overall impact on performance.
-Type-88: Slightly increased the initial recoil, reduced muzzle drift. The Type88 fires the slowest of the medium caliber LMGs, though what it lacks in rate of fire it makes up for in controllability.
-PKP: Reduced recoil but added a slight initial recoil, increased damage at max range. The Pecheneg has a heavy vertical recoil with a hard hitting round and little drift, this makes it excellent at sustained fire.
-M60: Reduced the initial recoil, increased damage at all ranges. The M60 has a very low rate of fire that makes it the most controllable with the powerful 7.62x51mm round.
-M240B: Added an initial recoil, increased damage at all ranges. The fastest firing medium MG, the M240 has a substantial muzzle kick and drift that makes all that power difficult to control.
-QBB-95: Reduced the total recoil but increased muzzle drift and initial recoil. The QBB-95 should now kick harder but settle into full auto fire better, combined with the bullpup hip fire bonus this makes the QBB-95 a highly mobile LMG.
-MG36: Added an initial recoil. The MG36 fires at a fast 750rpm and makes a nice middle ground between the controllability of a clip LMG and the sustained firepower of a belt fed LMG.
-870: No change. The 870 is a popular and highly effective weapon.
-DAO-12: Reduced the total pellets fired from 12 to 9. The DAO-12 has a high magazine capacity with a slow reload that makes it a solid all around shotgun.
M1014: Increased the rate of fire from 200 max to 210 max. Reduced the total pellets fired from 12 to 9. The M1014 was underperforming compared to the USAS12 and 870, it should now be more viable in CQB thanks to a higher rate of fire.
-S12k: Increased extended mag from 8 rounds to 10 rounds. Reduced the total pellets fired from 12 to 9. The S12k larger extended magazine but slower rate of fire should make it stand out against the M1014, while the DAO-12 has a higher capacity over all, but a slowe reload.
-MK3A1: Increased magazine capacity to 8 and 12 for normal and extended mag respectively. Reduced the total pellets fired from 12 to 9. The MK3A1 has a lower ROF than the USAS12, giving it slightly more ammo makes this an edge vs the USAS.
USAS-12: Increased the initial recoil. Reduced the total pellets fired from 12 to 9. The USAS 12 has a higher ROF than other shotguns, this recoil change better balances that advantage and the pellets balance its damage output.
-M4A1: No Change. Well-rounded carbine, with good rate of fire and controllable recoil.
-M4: Increased vertical recoil, reduced horizontal recoil. The Burst only M4 should now feel different to its automatic sibling, the reduced horizontal recoil emphasizes the greater control you have in burst fire.
-AKS-74U: Reduced initial recoil and vertical recoil. The AKS-74u’s low rate of fire is paired with great controllability. The overall increase in sustained fire control should help this carbine stand out, while the first kick gives it character.
-SG553: Reduced initial recoil and vertical recoil. The SG553 is a lower rate of fire carbine with greater controllability than the G36C. The change to initial recoil should better highlight this difference.
-A91: No Change. The A91′s high rate of fire and bullpup from the hip accuracy is offset by a poor controllability on full auto.
-G36C: Reduced initial recoil. The G36C is a well-rounded carbine, with a medium rate of fire and a medium recoil. The 2 round burst mode gives this weapon an edge at mid-range.
-SCAR-H: Increased damage at maximum range and increased max range. The SCAR-H fires a heavier round than all other carbines, giving it better stopping power at range at the cost of a low fire rate that penalizes it in CQB.
-G53: Reduced recoil and drift, recoil settle times now similar to other carbines. The HK53 is a short carbine with a lot of initial kick but a stable recoil pattern and a medium rate of fire. The changes give it more character compared to the G36.
-QBZ-95B: Reduced muzzle sway, recoil settle times now similar to other carbines. A bullpup like the A91, the QBZ-95B is steady on the move with a lower rate of fire for controllable shots at longer range. The built in foregrip is now properly reflected in the weapon’s stats.
-AK-74M: Reduced initial recoil and vertical recoil. The AK-74M sacrifices rate of fire for controllable automatic fire, the initial recoil was negatively affecting the feeling of controllability.
-M16A3: No Change. The M16 (both A3 and A4) provide a well-rounded stable firing platform with a high rate of fire that is relatively controllable.
-M16A4: Increased vertical recoil, reduced horizontal recoil. The Burst only M16A4 should now feel different to its automatic sibling, the reduced horizontal recoil emphasizes the greater control you have in burst fire.
-M416: No change. The M416 is the middle ground AR, blending a medium recoil and rate of fire.
AEK-971: Increased initial recoil, reduced aimed accuracy slightly. The AEK has a very high rate of fire, and also a large muzzle drift that makes control difficult. The low initial recoil allowed a player to kill before the weapon’s weaknesses kicked in while the reduced accuracy highlights its close range role.
-F2000: Reduced vertical recoil, increased zoomed accuracy slightly. As a bullpup, the F2000 has a bonus to accuracy on the move and from the hip while its high rate of fire sacrifices controllability for saturation. The previous changes were an overreaction, this is a corrective update.
-AN94: Reduced vertical recoil. The AN94′s 2 round burst mode is incredibly accurate, but it suffers from a low rate of fire on fully automatic. The recoil in full auto has been reduced somewhat to offset this penalty and make the AN94 more attractive.
-G3A3: Increased damage at all ranges, reduced vertical recoil. The G3A3′s heavy recoil and heavy round are offset by a low rate of fire and a small magazine. The G3A3 was clearly outclassed at all ranges.
-KH2002: No Change. The KH2002 is locked to burst fire, with a high rate of fire and a large muzzle drift the weapon favors accurate mid-range fire.
-L85A2: Increased accuracy, reduced muzzle drift. The L85 differs from other bullpup style ARs by having a low rate of fire, the accuracy and controllability were too low to offset the rate of fire.
-FAMAS: The FAMAS combines an extreme rate of fire with extreme recoil making it very difficult to use at anything other than close quarters combat. Due to update restrictions, the FAMAS had different stats on all 3 platforms. The FAMAS is now uniform on all platforms and now has the correct 25 round magazine.
-PP2000: Reduced the initial recoil. The PP2000 has a lower ROF than other PDWs and needed the controllability to be balanced.
-UMP45: Reduced accuracy loss during full auto. The UMP45 hits hard and has a controllable recoil at the cost of a heavy initial recoil kick.
-MP7: No Change. The MP7 has a very low recoil and a high muzzle drift that favors longer bursts than the P90.
-AS VAL: Increased vertical recoil, reduced first shot recoil, reduced accuracy on the move. The AS VAL fires a long range, highly accurate, high damage projectile that favors short bursts or single fire when stationary. While still quite good from the hip, the AS VAL will suffer if fired while moving and aimed.
-PDW-R: Reduced the initial recoil. The PDW-R has high recoil and favors burst fire, the added initial recoil was making it less effective in small bursts.
-P90: Reduced the initial recoil. The P90 favors a run and gun play style using long bursts to control muzzle drift, the initial recoil was making bursting ineffective.
-PP-19: Slightly reduced the initial recoil when firing, increased base damage. The PP-19′s high initial recoil was over penalizing the burst fire needed to be effective on the low damage, high capacity weapon.

SCOPES
-Fixed the 7x scope not zooming to the full 7x on all weapons.
-Corrected the M39′s laser sight so it points at the point of impact and aligns with scopes when zoomed.
-Fixed a misaligned scope crosshair on the G3A3 using the Rifle Scope 6x.
-Fixed the PKA and PKA-S scopes on the M416 having swapped zoom levels.
-The L96 Straight Pull bolt now functions properly.
-The L96 ironsights have been adjusted for a clearer aiming picture and correct use of the integral front sight.
-The L96 now properly shows scope glint when using the 8x, and 12x scopes.
-Tweaked IRNV to be more consistent across all levels.
-Fixed a rendering issue with IRNV view when taking damage.
-Tweaked the IRNV zoom times and scope visible areas to be the same across all weapons (some were faster than others).
-Fixed the QBU-88 sniper and the L96 IRNV scopes to use the proper sniper reticule

BIPOD
-The Accuracy increase and Recoil reduction of the Bipod has been significantly improved for Assault Rifles and Carbines.
-The Bipod now provides similar Accuracy and Recoil benefits no matter if the weapon is fired while aiming or without aiming for all weapons. Previously only LMGs were worked this way. This especially improves the speed at which snipers can make follow up shots, and also allows effective unaimed suppressive fire with Assault Rifles and Carbines.
-Increased the Speed at which a bipod is deployed, allowing the user to obtain the bipod’s bonus sooner after the deploy has started and allowing the weapon to be aimed in a far shorter time. The speed has been increased 40-50%, depending on the weapon and animation.

HEAVY BARREL
-The Vertical Recoil penalty of the Heavy Barrel has been reduced. The value has been changed from a global percent increase to a weapon specific value.
-A small Hip Accuracy penalty has been added to the Heavy Barrel to represent the added weight of the accessory, as well as focus the attachment on accurate mid and long range fire. The exact penalty amount is a weapon specific value.
-Several weapons with low default bullet speed now have their bullet speed increased when the Heavy Barrel is equipped. This is in effect for the A91, G3A3, AKS-74u, G36C, M4A1, SCAR-H, SG553, G53, and QBZ-95B.
-The Heavy Barrel is now also paired with Match Rounds which increase the maximum range of the weapon. The minimum and maximum damage are unchanged, weapons with the Heavy Barrel will be more effective in mid range.
-The Aimed Accuracy bonus provided by the Heavy Barrel has been increased. This will increase the effectiveness of the Heavy Barrel for small bursts, as originally intended.

IRNV FIXES
-Tweaked IRNV to be more consistent across all levels.
-Fixed a rendering issue with IRNV view when taking damage.
-Tweaked the IRNV zoom times and scope visible areas to be the same across all weapons (some were faster than others).
-Fixed the QBU-88 sniper and the L96 IRNV scopes to use the proper sniper reticule.

FOREGRIP
-The Horizontal Sway reduction has been changed from a global percent reduction to a weapon specific value reduction. For most guns this means very little change, for guns which have a large horizontal recoil the change is more substation. The FAMAS, F2000, and AEK971 are most effected, the AK-74, M16, and M416 are nearly unchanged.
-A small long range Aimed Accuracy penalty has been added to the foregrip. Players who generally find themselves fighting at mid to long range may want to change their accessory, while players fighting in CQB will go largely unaffected. Combining the Foregrip with a Silencer or a Heavy Barrel will offset this penalty.

LASER SIGHT
-The Hip Accuracy bonus provided by the Laser Sight has been increased. Some PDWs have had their crouch and prone base stats adjusted to prevent hip firing being more accurate than aimed fire when using a laser sight.
-The bonus is now a weapon specific value instead of a global percentage, some guns receive larger or smaller bonuses, though all bonuses are better than they were previously.

SUPPRESSOR
-The Suppressor no longer reduces the maximum damage of a weapon when equipped. Instead the Suppressor reduces the minimum and maximum range of the weapon, making it ideal for CQB and Stealth. This change will make the Suppressor slightly more effective at long range, where the bullet drop and speed makes shots difficult already, and reduces the power of the suppressor at mid range slightly.
-The Suppressor’s recoil bonus remains unchanged at a global 10% decrease. This is less than the Flash Suppressor’s bonus for all weapons.
-The Hip Accuracy penalty of the Suppressor has been changed from a global percentage to a per weapon value. Generally this penalty is higher now, but not for all weapons. Specifically, the belt LMGs and bolt Snipers do not have any additional hip fire penalty, as their penalty is already at the maximum possible value.
-Reduced the Aimed Accuracy bonus of the Suppressor from 50% to 25%. A Suppressor and Foregrip combo will have similar accuracy to a weapon without any Accessories, at the penalty of worse Hip Fire Accuracy and Range and with the benefit of much improved Stealth and reduced Recoil.

FLASH SUPPRESSOR
-The Flash Suppressor no longer reduces accuracy for Automatic Fire.
-The Flash Suppressor now also works as a recoil compensator, reducing the Vertical Recoil by a weapon specific value. This bonus is larger than the bonus provided by the Suppressor.
-A small Hip Accuracy penalty has been added to the Flash Suppressor to represent the added weight of the accessory. The exact penalty amount is a weapon specific value.

GADGETS
-Reduced the spot times on C4 and Claymore projectiles from 30 to 15 sec.
-Tweaked the controls and physics for the EOD bot to improve its handling and aiming capabilities.
-The Radio Beacon, Mortar, MAV, EOD bot, T-UGS, and SOFLAM should now be much easier to deploy.
-The MAV will now be destroyed when running into a soldier or vehicle at high speed. It is still possible to strategically sacrifice your MAV on a soldier; it will be destroyed in the process.
-The MAV now properly shows up in the Kill Feed. Previously it simply displayed “KILLED.”
-The MAV can no longer be used as an elevator.
-Matched the motion sensor sweep frequency and range on the MAV to the TUGS.
-Players will no longer auto enter SOFLAM, MAV, and EOD bots after they are deployed.
-Players may now use their knife to destroy enemy equipment.
-C4 will no longer be detonable after a player respawns, if the player is revived within 5 seconds he can still detonate his C4.
-The player may now have a maximum number of mines which will persist after the player’s death. Deploying more than the maximum of 6 mines will remove a previous mine from the world.
-Claymores now live up to 5 seconds after a player dies, the player can have a max 2 claymores planted at the same time.
-Claymores can now detonate from vehicles and can be used to disable jeeps or kill the passengers in light jeeps. Claymores will not do any damage to heavy vehicles.
-Ammobags now stay until the user redeploys them like Medkits.
-Ammobags resupply bullets more quickly, but explosives resupply more slowly, especially 40mm grenades.
-Slightly reduced the effective blast radius of the RPG, SMAW, and 40mm grenade projectiles against infantry.
-Reduced the total number of RPG and SMAW missiles carried from 5 to 4. Players desiring more rockets will want to use the Explosive spec.
-Slightly increased the heal rate of the Medical Crate.
-The MAV now will also descend by pressing the Crouch Toggle key. (PC)
-The M224 Mortar can no longer be deployed in an area that is out of combat for another team like a home base or other protected spawn.
-Tweaked M224 exit points so the player faces in the direction of the mortar when he exits.
-Mines, Claymores, C4 and other deployable items will now only appear on the minimap when spotted by a teammate.

TEAM DEATHMATCH
-Fixed a bug where players would spawn close to the enemy team at the start of the round.
-Tehran Highway playable area has been doubled and is now the same as the Squad Deathmatch set up. Spawn points have been tweaked, and an extra spawn zone has been added north of the footbridge.
-Kharg Island has a new spawn zone layout, along with a bigger playable area and new cover objects. Spawn points have also been tweaked.
-Strike at Karkand spawns zones have been tweaked to improve player flow. Spawn points have been tweaked to improve safety upon spawning.
-Sharqi Peninsula spawn zones have been adjusted to optimize player movement. Spawn points have been tweaked so players spawn more safely.
-Seine Crossing spawn zone set up has been improved. There is a new spawn zone by the alleyway to the northwest with additional spawn points.
-Caspain Border spawn zones have been tweaked slightly.

SQUAD DEATHMATCH
-Fixed a bug where players would spawn close to the enemy team at the start of the round.
-Damavand Peak layout and spawn zones have been tightened to reduce the spread of players across the map
-Tehran Highway now features an extra spawn zone north of the footbridge, along with tweaked spawn points.
-Noshahr Canals spawn zones have been tweaked. Removed unsafe spawn points in the Northeast corner, and in the middle of the container area to the Southwest.

DISABLE ANTI-ALIASING ON PS3 TO REDUCE INPUT LAG
PlayStation 3 players may now turn off anti-alias in the options menu to reduce input lag.

IMPROVED COMMO-ROSE FOR PC


As has been rumored for some time, we are making some improvements to the commo-rose on PC. This is partially based on feedback from the community.

Please be aware that the commo-rose will change depending on your current position – vehicles and infantry each have separate call outs. Each function should trigger appropriate voice messages as well as icons on the mini map.

Yes! We have added horns to all jeeps in the game! Nothing says “Get in and man the machine gun so we can take back the airfield!” like three short beeps of the horn. Just press [SPACE] to make your presence known to friendly forces. Warning: Beeping also heard by opposition. Suggest limiting beeping when in enemy territory to keep vehicle in working order. This feature is also present in the PlayStation 3 update that went live yesterday (activated by L1).

So I have been struggling with my video card since I got it in October. I can only play about 15 minutes before it crashes (hard lock). I also get artifacts coming off my gun in BF3 that get worse when I crouch (I know makes no sense). I have been putting up with it but lately it's getting to a point where I can't play at all.

So I have been troubleshooting constantly and finally decided to sell the card on craigslist and buy something new. On the off chance that the manufacturer (Zotac) could help I opened a ticket with tech support. I have been emailing with a decent guy that included a BIOS update and some other suggestions. Nothing works.

In my reading about the 570 I noticed a lot of people saying the clock speed of the card effects the graphics (not sure why). I decided to attempt to "under-clock" my video card to the stock speed. Like many cards these days it's a manufacturer overclocked version (AMP!) that includes a larger heat-sink and better cooling. After I changed the Core clock to a lower value it now works perfectly. I played 2 hours last night without a crash! However, fuck Zotac for making me pay more for a card that is overclocked that can't handle it. I will be pushing for a RMA etc.

I purchased the $49 5 expansion pack deal and got into "Close Quarters" exp early. It's pretty cool - a lot less spammy compared to COD (no air strikes). Otherwise, just a chance to work on unlocking my remaining weapons and the medic class. Maps are nice but of course there is no place to hide so it is a good idea to stay with your team. I am more excited for the vehicle only exp that is next. Oh and this weekend is DOUBLE EXP POINTS for everyone!! lol

Played Armored Kill this morning. Maps are great but LARGE and there is of course a lot of choppers. Few new vehicles and the return of the 4 wheelers which are great to move around the map. I found it easy to sneak up on enemy tanks with C4 because of all the tank to tank combat.

Not once had i ever crashed in BF3. Somewhere between the windows updates, the AK update, and updating my GPU driver last night i now crash 30sec into ever session.

I got home tonight and crashed 4 times..... finally figured out that my computer had rebooted overnight and I had to re-underclock my processor. Chad any chance you have one of those out of the box over clocked processors like mine?

Don't think so, and like i said, it has worked flawlessly. Probably the gods telling me i have better shit to do than play computer games.

Blah just roll back your video driver to what you had before and I bet it works. I got BF3 working on my new laptop last night, plays really good on medium or high graphics. I should be set for after I move out next weekend.

Lol after reading suposidly the AK update is to blame. If what i read is true from multiple sources, OVER HALF of current players are experiencing major crashing problems currently. I did see a release version of 306.xx driver for my machine but i havnt fired up BF3 to try it after that update.

Maybe time to go back to warcraft?

After mothballing this game for a while, I got it updated and ready to play again. But, I should have figured that there would be 4 FUCKING EXPANSIONS NOW! Each costs $15. I think about the last thing I want to spend $45 on is a few extra maps for this game. :mad:

Yeah it's $45 to upgrade to "premium" that comes will all the expansions.... I think it was worth it but currently I only play the Aftermath expansion so grab that for $15.
